Compared to when I joined back in 2006, when a new thread wasstarted it ended up 10 down in a couple of hours and a post made in an existing topic it ended four or five post down
There just no comparison with today.

What pity!

Any one got any idea how to bring it back to life.?

I am told it was not easy to get the powder room started in the first place.

How come your profile says "JOIN DATE 2009", and you post "Compared to when I joined back in 2006..." Were you under a different name or just a lurker?

Today, we have Facebook and other social media. I think to some degree, this has diminished some members participation.

Bring it back to life? Well, start posting! And no, the PR was easy to get going. We have wonderful Bartenders in there.

Many of the ladies who used to post in here are no longer on this board, unfortunately. They have left for various reasons, but many of them are on Facebook and we have our own little circle of vintage girlie topics there. Daily makeup, hairdos, manicures, sewing projects, products recs, etc.

Yes I was "a lurker from say 2004 to 2006.
No I have had the same name all the time,
I have changed my email address over that period and always had my own domain name for my vintage fashion web sites which I run, November 2009 I changes this domain and email and some one at F/L HQ decided my new one was Span and deleted my account automatically.
it was sorted out in November 2009,
I do not have 3,637 under my belt because when I post outside the P/R I seamed to get jumped on very quickly, apart from the small fact I not that interested in guns, hat or men's suits.

Sounds like there not that much hope then for the F/L , I also have my own little circle on face book snd we talk about Girlie stuff, also have a slightly wider agender , I still log in here and post if there any thing that interest me. (there not much to talk about )

I have to say that I haven't noticed any decline in the Powder Room although I haven't been a member for quite so long.
I still enjoy posting if and when the feeling takes me. I used to post in the Purchases thread but don't so much any more, not for lack of spending but too much of it! I don't really have the time these days to take pictures, transfer them to laptop, upload to Photobucket and then post on here. I also have found that as I feel I know my style and how to achieve it much more that I don't spend a lot of time scouring the pages on here for info.

It did seem busier even when I started reading. It was always to exciting to look in and see what new topics and replies there were.

This site is my only vintage fix so I miss it!!

Every forum has its natural ebb and flow -- people come and people go, interests evolve, and discussions wax and wane. The Lounge itself has evolved from a hat forum to a general vintage clothing forum to a place for discussion of all aspects of Golden Era life and culture, and every step in that evolution has seen changes in the atmosphere of the place. Some don't find those changes to their liking, and move on -- others settle right in and make themselves at home. Got something Golden Era to discuss? The floor is yours.

I think I'm a little scared of starting new threads because I feel that most things have most likely been discussed before and that I'm just bad at using the search function.

I'm the same!

I can never find anything using the search function. I wanted to ask how many vintage items the ladies here had in their wardrobe and what was the most useful and most loved but I am sure it must have been asked before - I just can't find it!

Flicka & angeljenny The search function is not the greatest around, if there is another post some one will tell you,
not that they trying to get one over on you or any thing, just it can get a little odd if the six threads all about similar things , that goes on other forums I know.

If nothing springs to mind just go ahead and start a new thread, that's what I done in the past.

Exactly, and not mention getting slapped down for it.

The search function is not one of the greatest acheivements in computer technology, but it can be made to work with a little fiddling. The "Advanced Search" function makes it easier to narrow down, and by experimenting with keyword searches you can usually find what you're looking for if it's there. Sometimes it's also helpful to search posts by your favorite posters -- if they've posted in the sort of topic you're looking for, it will turn up among their posts.

Don't forget also to take a look at the "most often searched" section in the Powder Room FAQ sticky.

And if you do end up starting a thread that duplicates an old one, the hammer of retribution will not instantly crash down upon you. We can merge into the old one -- that's why we make the big bucks.

The whole Lounge has changed quite a bit in the three years that I've been on here, but I don't necessarily think any part of it is dying.

I do, however, notice lately that we will get new members in the PR who will post a lot and then leave, so I wonder if a lot more people come on here just to get their questions answered and go than they do to contribute to the community. Perhaps that's what Paul has noticed also, or maybe its just me

Looking foward to your responce

As Lizzie states there is an ebb and flow to the forum. People move on or get busy with other things. It's like attending church, in the summer a lot of people go on vacation so the turn out is a lot lower than most of the year. A flu bug is going round, people stay home, bad weather, etc.

The thing anyone can try is take a look at other older threads and see who you've missed recently, then invite them to join in the conversation again via a PM.

No need for arguments about who's posting what and when -- those members who might not spend much time in this part of the Lounge may not realize who posts often and who doesn't. Let's keep this thread to the question raised, and if there's any personal stuff to be taken up please do it in PM.

As far as deleting threads go, unless something is egregiously off topic -- having nothing to do with the Era, for example -- we've proven ourselves pretty liberal so far as what we'll allow here, I think. There's things that I personally have no use for or interest in, but if they're of interest to enough of our members to keep them going -- and if there's a reasonable connection to some aspect of the Era, I've got no problem letting them stay. The only thing that's going to be summarily deleted is obvious spam, "meat market" type dating threads, and pictures showing nudity, new or old, because that's an overall policy of the Lounge. We don't want the kind of traffic such pictures attract, who tend to make more trouble than they're worth, and there are plenty of other places on the net where you can find that kind of stuff if you want it.

Keep in mind too that this is a *Golden Era focused* forum, and Facebooky type stuff, modern-era celebrity gossip, modern styles, modern habits and such aren't what we're about here. Most people here understand that and keep discussions on topic, which makes our jobs that much easier.

So anyway, within those boundaries, knock yourselves out. There are plenty of quality threads here that can be added to, and plenty of subjects that can be discussed -- all anyone has to do is discuss them.
