Is Styrofoam bad?

I was thinking of making a super-quick-and-easy-hat rack, and I didn't want to just hang a hat on a peg. So, I thought I might get some of those styrofoam balls from a craft shop to put on the ends of the pegs. Are there any concerns about leaving a fur or wool felt hat in contact with styrofoam for a prolonged period? Will it draw critters, or cause a stain or odor?

Should not be a problem

I believe that Styrofoam is inert. Shouldn't mar the hat , and will distribute the "peg" pressure.

Art uses, and so does Graham at Optimo, the wire racks, like the metal book case arms that go into the metal slotted square things you screw to the wall. Instead of wood shelving, the metal rack afforts good air circulation, support, and the brim of the hat can hang over the edge if you leave it in the snapped position.

Something like a "hat rack" or coat rack, usually has the metal or porcelain ball on the end. If the hat is stored on such a rack for an extended perios of time, it can mark the felt. Usually, you have the hook of the rack come on contact only with the sweatband, and not the felt. Of course, don't have someone also put his hat on top of yours, or toss a raincoat over the whole lot!

I can't picture this. Anybody have a photo?
