Is my Aerial Star jacket too short??

I have a Sears Roebuck denim jacket that's exactly the same. I was going to get rid of it until I got the right sort of jeans (post this pic) but I've really come to love this jacket:

Craig, that denim jacket would IMHO look even better with khaki chinos.

If I wasn't wearing jeans with my A-2 when I went out, I'd probably be arrested before I could get to end of my road.

I think your jeans look great with your A2 in your previous photo. Great colour knits - and leather. Those brown tones work perfectly with dark blue (complementary colour) jeans IMO.

Nick, you're not really going to leave the house looking like that, are you?

Seriously, I sometimes have the same conundrum as you. Some of my shirts just look better untucked (Mountain Khakis) , They may or may not look good with a shorter jacket. If they don't, then they, or the jacket, are changed. Some shirts look better tucked, so there will never be a problem.

The main look I'm trying to avoid is of appearing to wear some kind of Bohemian skirt over my pants, flaring out from under a jacket hem.

Other than that, it's all good, brother.

Nick, if I walked past you wearing this jacket on the street, I'd think man, that's a cool looking guy. Looks great. Better than most of these jacket I see on people... Granted, I've n idea how they're supposed to fit, but yours look awesome to me. Worry not about it.

Ta! It's drawn a few compliments from non-enthusiasts, which I always think is a sign that it's an absolute keeper. SimonC's jeans are ideal for A-2s as well in terms of cut and colour - I recommend them to everyone.

Oh yeah- the jacket's a keeper alright. Those caramel knits totally make it with that shade of leather. It's perfect.
And the look with the jeans is great. It's how I would pair them together.

I don't get to read all the threads and must have missed the thread on the jeans - so I'm unfamiliar with the jeans (and still hanker for pair of selvage denim jeans one day!) but I do recognize the name SimonC from the forum. Does he have a website?

Ta, Nick. But your Aerial Star is super cool, so hang on to it. If you want to wear longer tops, I'd just use it as an excuse to buy a longer jacket!

It looks fine, though I tend to wear my A-2s short-ish with any top tucked in, I think they look best on me that way. Basically, I start with the belt-covered rule and then decide if it looks good from there.

Craig's A-2 is one of the sharper ones that I have seen, and that collar stand really gives it a military appearance that would be even more enhanced with WW II khaki pants.

I should be heading to Arizona in the autumn, I'll try this combination. If I get picked up by MPs for being AWOL from WWII, we'll know that's the 'ideal look' :D

I wouldn't be happy with that length, Nick. And your doubts will never go away. If it doesn't cover the belt by a couple of inches it's in dubious fit land.

I appreciate your honesty Seb. I too think generally I prefer a longer jacket, probably longer than needed. Makes for a more versatile jacket. I'm happy there is some positive feedback with this one, but I do appreciate your thoughts just the same. I have a few others and I'm far from finished acquiring jackets so this one has a place for the time being.

Other than the sleeves being a bit long, that's the appropriate fit for that style of jacket. Many here prefer to modify vintage styles for a more modern look.

I like wearing my leather jackets with corduroy's either jean or trouser style. The more solid or earthy colours of available corduroy's and the texture can make a nice contrast or match. Nick's jacket looks like an ideal fit for my eyes but I can see different possibilities also. Though generally I prefer shorter jackets I am not too fussed about lenght or precision fit. I have all kind of fits in my wardrobe.
