Is my Aerial Star jacket too short??

I can't seem to make up my mind if it's a bit too short. It looks fine when I tuck my shirt in, but I don't always tuck in and always wear it unzipped. This is how I'm wearing it today. What do you guys think? Thanks.

Funny you bring this up. I just acquired an A-2. It might be a little longer on me than yours, but not much.
The A-2 "fit" thing has been going on for years, and basically, it comes down to - if you like it and it feels OK, it's OK.
There was no proper fit as these things were given out and made at warp speed with little regard to how they looked.
If you search here, I think there's even threads on this specifically.
You're tall (looks like) as am I - I think it looks fine. If you had a tucked in shirt, it would likely look less short, if that makes sense...
If you enjoy it, it's fine. I'd say the sleeves are more important, and they look good too.

Thank you Butte. The sleeves are an inch or so too long (notice the accordion effect) but I can live with them. It's just that on certain days I prefer wearing my shirt (or in this case sweater) untucked.

I need to go back and remeasure the waist knits and compare it to my other jackets, but it looks like the Aerial Star knits might be a hair longer than regular A-2 knits. So if I go out looking for an eventual replacement waist knit and can't source these ones, I might have to get the jacket shortened by a tiny bit. So I'm trying to envision the jacket being maybe a quarter to half inch shorter than it is. Does anyone know the width of standard replacement A-2 waist knits?

Woke up to the house I'm staying at being robbed the first week here. We got our stuff back, but it was a fine introduction to the place. just going to school down here. Trying to do something with myself.

Can't Really tell. The waistband of your pants is hidden. Looks pretty short when trying to judge just where your belt would be, but then some here wear their jackets well above the belt yet receive multiple complimentary posts. For me, a jacket must easily cover my waistband & belt, then how it looks with sweaters or this type of garment, is just the way it looks (considering what I'm wearing underneath).

It barely covers the belt. If I wear my pants a bit higher there's about an inch of coverage. I think it looks pretty good (albeit short, in an appropriate way) with it tucked in, so I'm not worried there. I just don't want to look like a dork at school today. lol

Oh well I probably do anyway. A lady (not my type, go figure) in class complimented my Johnson flight jacket yesterday. I told her I'd wear more of my jackets so this is #2 in the showcase. lol lol

I'd agree with HD - that's it's hard to tell from one photo. I mean, if I was asked to judge how tall you are, looking at you beside the refrigerator, I'd guess around 6'8" - a regular pro basketball player height - which I'm sure you aren't. Cameras are funny that way - I've just finished painting "Lucky Dog" on my ANJ-3 and have taken photos throughout the process to post as a "How-To" guide and I've taken the utmost care to make everything set square, perpendicular and parallel, but some of the photos just don't show it like that at all … so it's hard to see from one photo. So a few extra photos would help …
As said, fit is purely subjective.
But I would say that the sleeves look good to me and it drapes nicely on you. It's a nice A2!

It looks fine, though I tend to wear my A-2s short-ish with any top tucked in, I think they look best on me that way. Basically, I start with the belt-covered rule and then decide if it looks good from there.

I have the same problem with a vintage Lee denim jacket I just got. As I can't stand it when a shirt protrudes from beneath a jacket, I just wear smaller t-shirts that rest on my belt. Besides, if you look at pictures of the guys wearing them in WWII you see all sorts of fits. It looks really fine on you, though.

Unless, of course, you're concealing a gut. Also, how do you guys feel about the denim jackets-on-denim jeans controversy? I maintain that that's the way they're supposed to be worn. Thoughts?

Jeans jacket on jeans is just wrongness, unless there's a big difference is colours. And maybe you add a vest or something... Shirts are tucked in, untucked doesn't really hide a gut. And A-2s are not worn with jeans. Them's the rules. And I'm the only one subject to these rules, others do what they want to, does not bother me

Never worn denim jackets with anything but jeans. My leather jackets I wear with just about everything, but mostly jeans because that's what I wear most often.

Exactly, Handymike, a pair of SJCs cured that problem completely. I agree with tonypaj on the double-denim conundrum: for me, it's fine as long as the jacket and jeans are sufficiently varied in colour, otherwise you end up in Steve Austin land:
If I wasn't wearing jeans with my A-2 when I went out, I'd probably be arrested before I could get to end of my road.
