Help, I need to know if some of you are as obsessed over certain clothing articles as I am. I have a "decent" Lucchese boot collection and now am building up my 30's style work shoe group and engineer boots. My wife thinks I'm nuts, but I rationalize it as cheaper than a new sports car (hint at my age on that one) to deal with the middle age crazy.

Oh, don't even get me started on horsehide jackets and coats, I've already got a new Aero designed in my head, I'm just about ready to pull the trigger when I get the $.

Am I in the right place to meet fellow enablers? :)

Maybe a 12 step program? Nope, I'd rather have the cool stuff.

Oh, man can I relate to this!!! My wife (who collect shoes!) thinks I'm nuts for buying new sports coats, hats and boots...and plimsols!! I have boot and plimsols that I've never even worn (yet!). There are certain styles that I just obsess over and I must have. Did I mention sunglasses, pens and watches???? :eusa_doh:

Just you make sure you don't cross that invisible line and start going in for suits, shirts and ties.

Not only will the financial outlay increase exponentially, but most of your fellow aficionados of ruggedly acceptable dude-gear will begin quietly avoiding you...because you'll have given in to an urge they're still struggling to sublimate.

.....and you will be amazed before you are halfway through...

As a newly attired man you will find that you avoid those old people, places and things that kept you dressed in your "old" ways.

You'll be amazed how easily you can convince yourself that you really NEED 3 tuxedos! Etc., etc., etc.

Pschaw, kid's stuff! Just wait til you find yourself buying a 1950s tailcoat for those white tie occasions where you don't want to risk your precious early 30s model....

lol lol lol Our deco-loving son at now almost 13-1/2 yo already has a two piece tuxedo, white tie and tails and a vintage beaver top hat to go with, AND a ivory DB dinner jacket... all of which he has worn to numerous Art Deco era/Golden Era events this past year... He's already outgrowing the third pair of tux trousers in a year.

No need for a program just step straight into a full raging addiction which can only be stopped by wifely/spousal intervention...:rage:  :(

When they start to go on about the addiction/problem and its gets too punishing just fall back on the Christopher Moltisanti excuse from the Sopranos "Hey I've got a sickness right!"

Colour me jealous.... start hunting now for enough bits to replace them all when he's modern-adult sized and so can't find anything much vintage to fit any more!!

Boy oh boy, I wish I had saved up all the clothes I found in college in the 80s. They were all too big! I was a 38 reg and the only suits I could find were 42s and 44s.

Now it's exactly the other way round! :rage:

If I had ever imagined that I would gain 60 lb in 10 years...

I did not have a trench coat with two gun flaps until a few minutes ago. That was enough reason to be a the bay...right? That does not mean that I did not have a nice overcoat or several overcoats, but I did not have one with two gun flaps and a belt and the buckles at the sleeves, SURE you argue, I had a very nice one with all of this but only one gun flap so who is counting! I was counting and I am greedy and I quit smoking for almost 4 years so I am allowed these extravagances!
Oh...wait a minute??? You mean I do not have to make excuses and explain myself here?
I can have more coats? shoes? ties? suits? jackets? HATS?
I knew I loved this place for a reason.

Thanks,
Cliff
