Is it just me or the vintage style?

I can remember a time and place (basically, the midwest ±25 years ago) when a man who was interested in the 1920s-40s at all outside of cars, sports, guns or the military was assumed to be either gay or in denial about it.

I have no definitive answer but could it be that gay man are more observant than MR average and not afraid at saying how good you look. I thinking also with the exception of someone close to you can you imagine a man coming up and saying “ oh those shoes are very nice are they a 40’s style” it would not pass their mind and just two embarrassed to do it, gay men might notice and more appreciated you look and not be as intimidated if he said “that’s a nice dress” .

I live and work in a very small town and there is only one gay man, we work together and we are very close friends, he is so much fun to be around and he always compliments me on how I look. We go out a lot together on Saturday nights with the gang from work to the "one hot spot in town" which is not always that happening but sometimes it is. I don't usually dress all vintage here but I incorporate a lot of vintage into my look, my hair is always styled and my make up is on. I usually have on a sleek leather jacket, gloves to match, jeans and classy leather boots. I am usually really dressed up compared to most, I get a lot of looks from cute guys but they do not usually approach me like they do the other girls in hoodies and ragged jeans and flip flops. My gay friend always asures me that I look beautiful along with the women they all tell me how pretty I look because my hair is so dark and I am so fair and so put together yada yada yada, I feel like if I look so good how come the cute guys dont talk to me and why do i not have a boy friend? Maybe the guys are just intimidated which makes me laugh because I am so not intimidating-timid is more like it, I am shy but I try not to project that so I try to project confidance instead. Maybe I should go and ask my guy friend what it is?

Hehehe Whenever I am out in my vintage glory... I always get the gays hitting on me or even serenading me. :) I think they have that extra bit of appreciation for someone well dressed... :eusa_clap

THat's amazing, cause presley has some pretty darn strong facial features going on, whereas Marilyn Monroe is more 'soft'.
I'm definetely going to look for that book, sounds like some good reading for ideas!

Here's the link to the pic I was telling you about. If it doesn't work, simply google "Lisa Marie Presley as Marilyn Monroe" on its image search.

Thanks lindy!:D
I think it's so sad that guys are so fearful of talking of things other than power tools and cars! Personally, I really don't ever think 'gay' when a guy does get involved in any subject other than these things. Men have a great view point that you can't necessarily get from another woman.
I think the most obvious response I get from the men when I go out in my vintage attire is that they're very much jumping at the gun to open doors for me...I think psycologically perhaps it helps put them at ease that I'm willing to be helped!
