Yeah, any other collar would do it much good. This standard, curved collar is just so... Utterly boring.

I think it's best to separate the jacket design from the material it's made from.

From a design standpoint, it doesn't really excite me. Aero have a number of half belt designs already, and while variety is the spice of life, this design doesn't really do anything that wasn't covered by the existing designs.

From a material standpoint, it's suede. Which is a material most people associate with delicate, difficult to clean, and vulnerable to wet weather. I don't know that these concerns are applicable to the this new suede, but I also think that the buying public will take some convincing if this suede is not. On the plus side, it is really nice to touch. But I think for most people, that doesn't outweigh the downsides.

I get the thinking that a special new material deserves to be launched with a new design that makes it seem exclusive and special. But what would you do if you could get any Aero jacket in this suede? Can someone buy the Majestic jacket in another material?

I think this looks great, but Guppy does have a point about whether we can have the majestic in another leather or the suede in another model. Also, didn’t they already have a couple suede options in the Rockafella?

I've been in love with suede ever since "Rubber Soul." I think the Rockefeller does come in suede, and I'd love to see either of those jackets in a rust with black leather trim, like a jacket I wore for years when I was in high school. It's great to see this level of creativity.

I'd be terrified to own a suede jacket in any other climate than one like the Arizona desert...Wore CXL in the rain all weekend and it might as well have been rubber. Water just beads up and falls of. I don't like thinking about weather resistance with my jackets...I just expect it to be there.
I do like the design tho and the subtle two-tone of the rough out vs the finished side.

I immediately thought of Seinfeld. I don't actually know if rain really will ruin suede jacket but I don't want to risk it.

I'd just get suede-protect spray and give it a couple of coats. I've used this on plenty of suede boots and it means rain just beads and runs off.

A lot of us have suede horror stories, but in all fairness I can't imsgine Aero opting to use a material that would be so easily damaged as all that.

We can’t really re-invent the 1930s, these suede jackets were virtually all Half Belts and the small size of the skins mean we can only make designs with smallish panels but we can make other 1930s Aero designs in the new suede or make minor design changes

It’s been a work of love finding a tannery who understood what we wanted, it’s too precious to dilute the material by using it in “just any Aero Jacket”, for instance it wouldn’t work in a Highwayman or Board Racer but it would look amazing in our Royale

Bottom line, we’d be happy to make most of our 1930s Jackets in it. Yes the Majestic is available in all our usual leathers.

Here is an Open Letter to the folks at Aero and most especially to Ken.



I was stunned when I saw the Majestic, stunned when I read the back story. A man's 25 year quest for the right leather. I kept thinking...and it is Suede. Further I read Ken's statement about the Majestic.

“I honestly believe this is the best leather jacket Aero has ever produced”

This giant of leather is putting it all in this Majestic jacket and in Suede to boot. I smiled, looked up at the suede Sears Topline jacket hanging on the wall, a nearly identical jacket. I knew I was in good company. My passion, my craziness had been validated by one of the Kings of Leather. I smiled again.

So, I get it. Maybe because we are both old and share a passion for vintage leather jackets I get it, maybe because we have worn all the others and just want something easier to hang on old bones. Maybe it is the feel, the look, the Richness of Suede. I get it. Maybe it is just a comfort Leather.

Within the last year I overcame my fear of Suede, took and Risk and purchased a 70 years old Windward Horsehide Suede jacket, then followed that up with three more I had to have. I got it and I get it. Folks are concerned about the Suede; durability, water damage, etc, cautious. I get that too. I was there. It isn't a robust workwear, wear anywhere anytime leather, it isn't about that. Check out the 75 year old suede's I posted. I would say they are probably in as good or better condition than the original owner. None of use will see a 75 year old Majestic so why worry. I see many new jackets with hardly a crease in the sleeve, so why worry about a Suede? Maybe it is a taste that comes when you have sampled about everything else,

A couple of years back Ken and I exchanged a couple of emails about a Thunder Bay style jacket I had just purchased. Ken confirmed the jacket was from Canada and the inspiration for Aero's Thunder bay. I knew this was a guy who knew what was what. A man who shared my passion for leather jackets, both old and new. It is easy to see the Old jackets become the New jackets with Aero, they are proud of that lineage, don't hide it but advertise their inspiration. I respect that. I see it in my own closest, only difference my jackets are older.

The Majestic should be King Jacket, perfect styling, perfect leather, perfect parts, perfect Fit It should be expensive. It should be a jacket with a waiting list.

I get it, I appreciate it. Thanks for all the efforts. Thanks for the Majestic, Take care my friend and be well. I'll turn my collar up in Toast to you.

I'm surprised at you guys being worried about wearing suede. Specially in this forum where some of you have more than 15 jackets for each occasion and are worried to have one leather jacket, one leisure leather jacket for the special ocasion when you know it's not raining, when the sun is shining, when you know you won't be doing hard work or leave your jackets hanging somewhere dirty and you want to feel comfortable and luxurious.

I own 3 suede leather jackets and wear them often, two of them are around 70 years old and are in better shape than my vintage leather ones Can they get dirty? Yes. Do you have to handle them like a fragile do not touch jacket? No way.

A royale would be a perfect choice for the suede as in this british jacket:

Most comfortable leather jackets if you ask me and they make me smile:
