I've been waiting for news of those hitting the airshow circuit. They've been working on that project for nearly 10 years.

Awesome! Put them in some movies, FAST!

...and get that pilot a proper helmet, dammit!

Just been reading about them..

In FLYPAST magazine, they did a nice piece recently, especially on the 262 which they flew over Berlin for the first time since 45!!!

In the case of the 262 at least it proved less expensive to replicate a new machine tahn to restore an original to flying condition. I think in the near future that may hold true for other rare warbirds as well.

I got to meet and interiew General Galland a multiple occassions. All I can say is that he was a charming and superb gentleman.

Careful what you wish for... a movie based on Adolf Galland's "The First and the Last" starring Leo DiCaprio.

I dunno, I think I'd like to see what DiCaprio could do with the role. He impressed me in "The Aviator" along with a couple of his other recent films. And Scorsese seems to be able to pull a good performance out of him, so if he directed it could work.

Stranger things have happened.

Cheers!

I was thinking the same thing. Not just that, I think it's about time to more generally acknowledge that decent, honorable men fought on both sides of the conflict. Galland is certainly a fine example of this.

All you'd have to do is fit him for a fake broken nose, he's already done the mustache and slicked back dark hair thing in The Aviator.

The two fun parts in a movie about Galland would be the Douglas Bader visit, and then the remark when Galland asked Goering for a sqaudron of Spitfires.

Hmmm, I don't know. DiCaprio looks like a kid and Galland was,...well a dashing grown up.

;)

Galland's military service was from the age of 21 to 33, so it's not that bad an idea. Who would you (and everyone else) suggest?

Oh my God! I am in awe. I read The First and the Last when I was in high school, and I would have given anything to have met the man in person. My father was an engineer at Supermarine before and during WWII, and he quite enjoyed Galland's "Give me a squadron of Spitfires!" quote.

I am genuinely envious.
