I have a couple of '41 Philcos that I have put off trying to restore for, oh, about a decade now, mostly due to the daunting effort of finding tubes, replacing a ton of wiring, de-corroding & de-rusting, etc. You may have inspired me to finally get them 'working,' even if it is a faux display. The hard part is going to be interfacing the dials; I'll have to dust off my atrophied engineering skills.
What fascinates me so much about the pre-war sets (other than the beautiful art deco and even art neuvo stylings) is the historical broadcasts that probably played over these very sets, such as the announcement of the attack on Pearl Harbor. I've got hundreds of hours of digitized wartime newscasts to broadcast on AM whenever I get the time for yet another pet project. (I.e., a Part 15 AM broadcast transmitter & antenna build.)
There's definite interest for things like this.
