What I've been told is that the prices of vintage there are just surreal and that the japanese will buy everything before anyone even gets a chance to look.

Like I said, some pay a huge premium -- I think over $100 -- to enter early and get first access to the highly desirable vintage stuff.

I've always thought the same thing, wishing it was somewhere closer to me .

Sadly Rin Tanaka is an LA guy so it probably makes more sense for him to have near his own home. Kind of selfish if you ask me...

Hey how about Buffalo. It just snowed 11 inches a few days ago. Then turned into freezing rain, now it’s just rain, but tonight into tomorrow we’re in store for 7-14 more inches of snow. Economically on the up swing and in the news all the time for it. So we deserve some love. Not to mention our vintage/repro scene is virtually zero. I vote Buffalo!

The silly quote is “we’re a drinking town with a football problem.” Or you can say hockey/sports. Our bars are open until 4am. Passed what they call the mimosa law so on Sunday’s football bars and hipster brunch people can start drinking at 10am instead of 12. We have the most pizzerias per square mile and population. This my friend is how we do it hahhaha.

My parents and I were in Boston several years ago and can’t remember the name of the bar. But they had posters alll over, listed on the menu how many local wing contests they’ve won and how their special sauce was award winning. So being from Buffalo we had to try them. Except during my small talk with the waitress being from Buffalo came up. She said ohhhhh. I’m going to change your order. Honestly if you’re from Buffalo our wings are trash. You want our chowder. We had the chowder.

In all honesty though as much as we’re known for drinking and fried food we’ve had this awesome low key food scene developing here. Sure I know Chicago, NYC, LA have had those for years. But what I like about our area is that all the chefs and high end bartenders get along. We’ve been working on Co-Ops, farm to table, local sourcing very hard here. Some of my favorites do what they call a Sunday family dinner once a month. It’s always at the same restaurant and they host the best chefs and bartenders from other places to come in and serve their specialities. They cook and concoct together. They invite the farmers and special guests free of charge to taste what they do with their foods. There’s a shoe cobbler here that’s out of this world called sole man, a 1950s style barber shop, and a 50s style boutique, and a pin up photo company. They all get together to promote one another and hep one another survive. The constant stream of alcohol, pizza, wings and sports helps. But that’s actually how we survive here. Help. Every snow storm neighbors shovel and plow one another out. If anyone ever comes to Buffalo I would love to show them our Frank Lloyd Wright and Darwin Martin buildings and take you on a drink and food tour for the ages.

Jeo, Dude and I ran into each other and hung out with Himel for a while. Dude was rockin his Grizzly and Jeo was sportin his Rainbow Country (I freaking love that jacket!).

Get this: One vintage seller had a mint 1930s Westerner jacket priced at $6,500. Never heard of the brand (TM?). Really good looking jacket, but $6,500. The same seller had a Laskin also priced at $6,500. Yikes.

By 'surreal' do you mean crazy-high? I could see building a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the West Coast around this show if it was affordable, but if just want to see beautiful stuff the price of which makes me scared to even touch it, we already have RMC and Clutch Cafe in London.

For those prices I would be buying 2-3 Himel, 4-5 Thedi, 2-3 Freewheelers, 2-3 Buzz Rickson or RMC.
