Nashville- well, close enough
I was reading this series today. The tunneling was interesting, but the divorce drama was over the top.

When his wife filed for divorce on the basis of his adultery, he wrote her a long, self-serving letter claiming he hadn't cheated on her, and that she couldn't prove otherwise.
Oh yes she could!

We have a similar thing over here in Liverpool - The Williamson Tunnels.

www.williamsontunnels.co.uk

The guy who built them was known as The Mole Of Edge Hill (an area of Liverpool) and no-one knows why he had them built. He paid men who had just come back from the Napoleonic Wars to build these elaborate tunnels and massive vaults for miles through the limestone under the streets. Even now we're not sure where they end. You can go on a tour of the ones they have found and some have several brick archways over one nother for no aparant reason. Very strange.
