Ah it showed one of my favorites---Henry Poole and Co. They are not the same since they have gone into ready wear stuff as well. They let anyone in there now.

Yes, Poole are one of my favourites. To my eternal horror, the only time I've been in (they are, like for most of us, just a wee bit above my income bracket … even for RTW) was when working as a cycle courier … end of a long 10 hour shift on my bike in late summer, dirty and stinking of sweat, delivering a package to an apprentice. The customers were horrified!!

I must admit it was more than a little bit of devilish fun to shock the old fuddy duddies with my filth.

Ah, well then that is the Poole I know.
Many years ago, you could not just walk into Poole and many of the others on Savile Row. You had to be introduced to Poole by a customer of good standing. It was one of those things that a father introduced his son to and on down the line. To say that they were exclusive is an understatement.
I have a bespoke suit around somewhere. I'll have to see if I can find it and still fit it.

That's why Nutter's became the tailor of choice for nouveau riche rock stars, the young, and anyone not traditionally welcomed by the "old Saville Row" in the 70s. It's also worth noting that Edward Sexton, the talking head in the linked video, was the technical talent behind Tommy Nutter's crazy designs.

In my estimation, guys like Nutter, Sexton, and Boateng are ultimately good for Saville Row because they bring new generations to English bespoke tailoring, without whom the whole thing would die out.

The very notion of using a word like riff raff explains exactly what was wrong about Savile Row - and is still wrong about much of British society. Even if they're successful (you'd have to be to afford the prices), they should know their place, right?:eusa_doh:

Yes they should.

The fact is, they will take - and always have taken - anyone's money. Especially that of the wealthy from overseas.

And still exclusivity remains the most sought after of all commodities, despite its abundance.

They might take the money now but they won't like it.
