Now that you mention it, that could be the "framing" device they'll use to tell the story in this one. It's the late 1960s/early 1970s, Dr. Jones is still a tenured professor of archaeology at Marshall College giving a lecture, one of the students asks a question about a particular artifact that Indy was involved in recovering, cut to 1930-whatever and the new Indy, and the story goes from there with Ford narrating occasionally. Sure it's been done before, but it would be in keeping with Dr. Jones being an educator and speaking to his students.

That's a good idea, actually. Kinda like that "Young Indiana Jones" TV series episode in which old Indy gets stuck in a cabin in a blizzard and relates a story from his youth.

Building on this possibility, the POV of this film will be that of Robert Montgomery in Lady In the Lake (1947).

The film will begin the way you described, and then when the flashback/main story is told, it will be in Indy-first-person POV. That way, no new actor is needed to play IJ, HF can voice IJ, and everyone will be happy (or really unhappy).

I greatly fear that this kind of sitcom device may well be used to help Harrison make a lazy $15million for a week's work.

A radical re-think is needed. Harrison plays Indy as the resident of an aged care home. Hs glory days are behind him. Indy is lame and sick. Despite saving civilisation many times, Indy struggles to afford and can't access the appropriate health care he needs. He has to sell an artefact he has in storage simply to stay alive.

We follow Indy's adventures as he discovers that the plight of sick old people in an indifferent world is every bit as insidious as dealing with Nazi's and the occult. Mike Leigh can direct it. And just for once Disney can interact with the real world.

"Indiana Jones Goes to Washington." I like it! Or better yet "Indiana Jones and the Quest for Affordable Health Care." Throw in a filibuster scene and I smell an Oscar!

This article has some good bits taken from rejected scripts of never-made Indiana Jones movies.

I’m happy to see that that the Wałbrzych Gold Train scenario (I think we discussed it in this thread at some point) was indeed the object of an Indiana Jones 5 script that has been rejected.

What I’d like to see is the script for Chris Columbus’ “Indiana Jones and the Monkey King” in which Indy rides into combat on a Rhino, plays chess using real people as pieces, and dies and is then resurrected. Sounds like fun.

I don't think it's such a bad idea at all. Of course, we're assuming that the Mouse cares about retaining an audience of old farts (i.e. us) who need convincing to accept a 'new Indy', when there's a huge target market out there of kids who might love a new Indy and don't care it's a 'new' guiy, because to them Indy as a whole is new. I mean, my first Indy experience was in 1984 (Temple, in the cinema) when I was ten - I took it for what it was and loved it, with little real awareness of the source material or inspirations....

Hopefully, though, they do want to keep us onboard (their clear and deliberate subversion of George Lucas' more stupid ideas with the Star Wars prequels might suggest this) - and have learned from the disastrous Solo!
