"In Uniform"

The Captain

One of the Regulars
I'm sure that some of you fine folks have been in the service of our country. I thought that it would be nice to see you "in uniform" (no re-enactments, please). I'll start the ball rolling with this one of me at Camp Pendleton, California, back in '57. For you gun enthusiasts, the weapon is a BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle). Heavy as hell, but I loved the firepower!

Three 5.56 rounds for zero. And three bandoliers just to verify address.

Things have changed, when I first came in oh so many years ago we were lucky to fire 1000 rounds a year. Last year I put a little over 15,000 5.56 rounds down range. The new CQB courses are a big improvement over the old KD courses.

I've been wondering ... do leathernecks ever say out loud "Semper Fidelis," or do they stick with the abbreviated "Semper Fi"?

.

I've always heard Semper Fi. Do or Die was added and now the Marines I know add the HooRah to it.

I've always heard "Ooorah" instead but in writing I've always seen it written as either "Semper Fi" or "S/F". I don't think I've ever heard a Marine ever come out and say "Semper Fidelis."

Is there some sort of wacky issue of scale in the photo between you and that other guy or are you in fact Godzilla? The people have a right to know! lol

We're reenacting the St. Patrick Brigade's maritime unit in that photo. :D

The other Sgt. (Garcia, IIRC) there is from San Antonio and is not the 6'2" Marine of Irish heritage in the photo.

Captain,

The scary thing is Talega looks exactly the same and those quonsets are still there and Marines are still living and working in them.
