In appreciation of Nick and the FL classifieds

I didn't have to go in to the office this past Monday, March 27, so after seeing the dewy-eyed bride off for her day of toil I sat down at the Mac and checked into the FL. I spotted in the classifieds a listing, posted by Nick Charles, for a suit and hat for sale. The suit would never fit me, but the hat, a sharp-looking vintage Stetson 15, seemed promising. And at 50 bucks (shipping included), I figured I couldn't go wrong. So Nick and I exchanged a couple of PMs and sealed the deal.
So today, March 30, I come home to find a box at the door. Inside the box is a bunch of crumpled-up newspaper, a sheet of cardboard and a Stetson hat box. Inside the hat box is the old Stetson, in very nice condition. I was impressed that Nick sent it Priority Mail and that he packaged it so carefully, especially considering that he charged considerably less than he could have gotten.
This is how it oughta work. Nick could have taken a safe gamble by listing the hat on that infamous online auction site. He almost undoubtedly would have seen bids escalate well above what he charged me. (Really, it's a very nice hat.) He could have asked more for it in the FL classifieds and he certainly would have found someone happy to pay the price. But he set a quite reasonable price and sold it in less than two hours. I just hope he's as happy with the exchange as I am.
I don't anticipate selling any of my lids anytime soon, but if I do, I'll do just what Nick did: List it here, ask a fair price, sell it fast, and know that the hat is going to someone who will appreciate it.
Once I've cleaned it up some (not that it needs it much) and stretched it just a hair (easy enough), I'll post some pictures.

I agree, I've dealt with Nick before and it was a much better experience than I've ever had on Evil-bay.

I always try to sell to everyone here first, because I know that they would appreciate it much more than someone that might be looking for a piece to their Halloween costume and couldn't care less about the value the item has as a piece of history.

I may not get as much as I would by listing it on the 'bay, but I know it will go into good hands if I sell it to someone here.

Thanks for the kind words gents. I hate to see things just hanging around and not getting use. I'd had that hat for about 5 months and never wore it. I'm glad it will be loved by someone and not collect dust.

Great story. :eusa_clap

It is nice when there are still people that can put the class in "classifieds".
