If you had a chance to travel through a TIME MACHINE for a WEEK? where would you go?

Ah! I had been looking for this thread. Hooray! :)

I've always had this desire to see Los Angeles during the turn of the century or any city in it's "infant years". I find that really fascinating. Then go to "the future" and see my city in the 1920s and 1930s.

I would have loved to have seen just about any World's Fair.

I would also like to see Titanic too. Just a nice little tour and then get the heck off the ship before it took it's "fateful voyage"!

I would have loved to have met my heroes Eleanor Roosevelt and Amelia Earhart.

Due to watching Harold Lloyd's movie Speedy, I fell in love with the old Luna Park. It looks so magical.

I don't think I'd ever want to go back in time and change things. If there's anything I learned from Star Trek, changing one thing (regardless of how minor it is and what good intentions you might have) can have a devastating effect on the future. Maybe it's because of those "hard times" it makes us a bit stronger. Plus, it always provides a constant reminder of what lessons we can learn from so we don't make the same mistakes somewhere down the line in the future.

Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. Although sadly, some people are still making the same mistakes. :(

I noticed a lot of people said family (which made me tear up a bit!). I don't know if I'd want to meet mine (worried about having a devastating effect on the future--lol!). I never really knew any of my grandfathers. My Mom's Dad died when my Mom was 16. My Dad's Dad died when I was a baby. I would have loved to have known them. However, would I still be the same person I am today? Hmmmm......

And oh yes. So bringing my camera!!! :D

All you guys wanting to take gold back in time aren't thinking straight. Buy some period currency off the bay, and buy the gold when you get wherever you're going. Then when you get back to the present, cash in.
But, back on topic, I'd visit my hometown in the late 50's or 1960, making sure I didn't run into anyone in my family... except maybe my grandfather, whom I would clue in on Shearson and Wal-Mart.

Back to my town in the 80's. Yep the 80's, to tell myself to not to do "this" and certainly more of "that."
Oh wait, that's the midlife crisis thread!
I've often thought how nice it would be to ride the Titanic, BEFORE the leg of the journey where it sunk.
The only other trip I'd make is Memphis in the 50's, when Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash were just starting out. Sure the building is still there, but few are still alive that lived it. I feel something is lost in the translation.

I'd like to go back to London before WWI. I'd like to meet Churchill. I'd like to walk the streets of London before they were devastated by WWII and see what my city looked like before the modern architects ruined it. Maybe I'd walk the streets of Whitechapel in 1888 and wait at the known Ripper murder sites to see who he was. I'd like to listen to the way they spoke English in those days and learn how to mimic it. I'd bring clothes from that era and a camera.

I would love to go back to 6th July 1957 at the St Peter's Church fete in Woolton Liverpool, and watch the Quarrymen playing live and then eavesdrop on John Lennon and Paul McCartney meeting for the first time:).
