"The" Akubra. As in, my Akubra. Generations may vary, but it's always a brown Federation. My everyday, everything, every occasion, hat. The hat that's perfect for me.

It's been a while and we've all got some new hats. I'm especially interested in hearing from the only guy with a 7xCB and both Stetson and Dobbs 100s. :)

I'm going with the 7xCB as the one at the top of my list, though I'm really digging my Casual lately.

This used to be a difficult question to answer, but no longer!

Maker: Vintage Silhouettes (hi Art!)
Felt Type: Lightweight
Felt Color: Natural (undyed)
Brim Width: 2 1/2"
Ribbon Width: 1"
Crown Height: 5 3/8"
Stylings: Underwelt brim, initials on sweatband, no liner, shipped open crown

P.S. - Lefty, I've never even heard of a Stetson Casual. Nice!

I've thought of this once or twice. What hat would it be if there was a fire and I could only grab one on the way diving out the window?..
It'd have to be my blue Borsalino Trionfo (that you covet so much lol ).

What an awesome hat! I would covet it also if my head were smaller.

Here's my entry, hands-down - almost the only time I don't wear this is when it's raining (carbon grey - darker than shown - Borsalino Mascotte)

Only one hat? Super simple: my Biltmore Rosellini Luauro in grey. I don't have a picture handy of my personal hat, but here is a catalog image.

I couldn't live without this hat.

Only getting to choose one...

I'd have to say my Open Road styled Stetson 25...

It looks just like the OR my grandfather wore & the brim is 2 3/4" which I like over the 2 5/8" of my Stratoliner.
It is weird how much difference that little bit of brim makes to me.
If the Strat had a 2 3/4" brim, then it would win.

Al-righty, then. ;) As between the 7X CB Shady Oak OR and the Stetson 100, the 7XCB wins. But, given the cruel Hobson's choice upon which this thread is premised -- if I could keep only one, I'd have to go with the Dobbs 100...

Only ONE hat. Choose well.

It'd have to be an all-weather sort of lid...a lightweight felt, medium-wide brim.
It'd have to be a neutral color...silverbelly tan.
It'd have to be dressable up or down...thin ribbon.
And it'd have to have panache enough for six lifetimes...Borsalino Alessandria.

[picture not available at this time. hold on please.]

Ahhhh...the pageantry of such fine hats! Each a treasure to view!
For me...at the moment...it would be my silver belly Camp Draft. It's my daily go-to hat.

Campdraft, Open Road, Alessandria...we're definitely seeing a trend here.

My Alessandria, tho currently awaiting restoration, also has sentiment behind it - a family friend, no longer with us, left it to me.

Until I replace it with something higher crowned (I know it looks good on me, but it doesn't hold brilliantly in the wind) my grey Stetson Chatham, in my avatar. Since I got it in January it has been the only hat I have worn. I don't care what people say about modern Stetson's, either it is no longer true or my hat is the exception. Either way, my hat has not tapered in the rain, not bled dye, not got powder on my hands and not lost it's shape more than could easily be re-shaped.

I know it's not what most loungers do, but I like one hat for everthing like people used to do in the Golden Era. I like the simple but smart when it comes to clothing. In the same spirit I have several suits but wear minimal accessories with them (usually only cufflinks and a pocket square).
