Idea: Fedora Lounge Podcast

Hey,

I was just wondering if anyone has thought about doing a podcast talking about the stuff we talk about here. There's no way we could cover everything. However, it would be great to talk about hats, suits and more in something like a 30 min weekly program.

Naturally, this would need to have MK's seal of approval. I think there's so much opportunity when people go to old dance parties or vintage places to record a short podcast about your experience.

It's just a thought. I subscribe to so many podcasts on iTunes and the idea occured to me I would like to hear about the things I follow the most like Fedora Lounge and Indygear.

Thanks,
Bill

My Battery is fine

Go to iTunes Music Store, and on the left side, choose "Podcasts."
They are sort of "talk radio" programs you can susbscribe to for free. Wall street news, movie reviews, etc. And you can create your own for release.

The story is here:
http://www.apple.com/podcasting/

You'll need the latest version of iTunes.

My battery is good for at least 8 hours, and is nearing 4 years old.

I am on classical now....ever hear Lorena McKennit? She's got a great voice....there is also a TON of "easy listening" and Jazz, and you name it. Thanks for the tip! I guess I'll delete "REAL PLAYER" from the compuer..ITunes is far better!

Yes!

You've still only scratched the surface. Audiobooks, music videos to watch (all genres), the biggest music catalog out there, free streaming (how could you not know about that??) radio, recent speeches, historic speeches, podcasts, etc. etc.
There's nothing quite like it.

In regards to your iPod battery, you might like this, Andykev.

Judge OKs settlement in iPod battery suit

"Oh! I'm so surprised that my rechargable (and perishable) battery has not lasted forever and ever! How unfair! I smell MUNNY, your Honor...."

Right up there with "Hey! What's the deal? That hot coffee you served me was HOT!"

But if you can get a free battery out of it, I'd certainly go for it.

Thats not quite the situation here. Its not that the battery doesnt last forever and ever, its that apple said '8 hours of battery life per full charge' and the ones with 'problems' get about 4 hours per charge. Thats half of the advertised listening time per charge.

Its like getting a roll of 24 exposure film, and going off on holiday to take the photos, and getting to 14 pictures and having no more film, when you expected to.

Everyone knew the battery would eventually have to be totally replaced, thats a different matter.

Getting back to the thread - this is a GREAT idea. Can anyone set up such a thing on the upcoming Queen Mary jaunt?

We could get together over SKYPE, so it would be free.

I'm up for it, but somebody on a Windows PC would need to use Sound Recorder to record the audio of it.

.

I have an old Cool Edit audio program. I do that all the time to get music or sound bytes off my PC that I want to take with me.

Will it convert to mp3, and will it handle a long recording session?

I'm ready to try this out sometime soon.

Now a 9 year jump! :p

There's such a wealth of interesting information here that I'd be interested in listening to.

Julian suggests a good candidate for content is Lizzie Maine. I'm sure there are others too.

Lots of tech advancements since this thread started in 2005. Any interest in revitalizing the podcast idea?

I'd definitely listen to a US-based podcast similar in format to Harry and Edna. I listen to Harry and Edna and I do enjoy the show but sometimes the topics feel a bit... hmm... remote.

This being said, suggesting that the forum expands into new directions is a bit of a delicate topic. We can suggest, and there can be a lot of enthusiasm for the idea, but someone has to step up and actually do it, and sometimes the stars don't align or the return on investment just does not make sense. Seems to me though if there's a group of folks who are enthusiastic about producing a podcast and it cannot be formally associated with the forum, they could produce it independent of the forum.
