What he is wearing in that photo is of Homburg style, I agree, but I think they would have just called it a "soft felt hat" (or a fedora) in that day (1890s to 1920s) and not a Homburg proper. That style, though, was a far more common fedora in that era than what we think of as fedoras today. The wide brimmed, soft felt fedora was not nearly as prevalent, especially before 1910. If you look at ads and photos the hat with 2 inch brims and less were more common than the 2-1/2 or more (unless you were westward in the USA).
