I tried on my first Real McCoy A2 today. How does it fit?

Had a jaunt around London today (ended up buying a pair of Red Wing Moctoes), and thought I would how a look at The Real McCoy. Always been intrigued, by their price range has always deterred me. However, the second I tried on this A2, I fell in love. It was like no other jacket I own. I was even tempted to throw my credit card at them. Alas, I held back.

I'd definitely appreciate your thoughts on the fit. This is a size 38. (Excuse the untucked messy shirt).

That’s a perfect fit IMO, looks trim but comfortable to wear. Beautiful jacket too.

It fits ok…. But it’s an A-2. If I were spending RMC dollars I’d want a pattern that highlights fit and design, rather than obscures it. IMO an A-2 looks best when it’s worn very trim. The knit bits work hard at creating a blousy looking jacket and they generally succeed.

IMO, it doesn't look bad, and you could definitely pull it off, but it seems a little big in the shoulders and chest.

I like it a lot.

I like A-2´s and I like most iterations of the A-2 by RMC. They are quite substantial, adding to the blousy look before being fully broken in, but that´s just the pattern of the jacket.

Eastman uses a (very nice) much thinner horsehide, so sized right you get a more form-fitting jacket. That said, it will never feel as luxurious as an RMC.

After a more thorough examination and putting my own purely personal antagonism toward the style aside, I believe that this jacket doesn't fit you even remotely well in any measurable way; The back is super blousy and bloated while at the same time, the jacket seems too narrow at the front, the sleeves are eating up the cuffs, shoulders look late 80's wide and it's a good 2 inches too long...

Get an A-2 by all means, pricier one or cheaper, doesn't matter at all but I don't think this one's for you.

But that's me. If you like it, get it.

I've handled Aero, Eastman and Lost Worlds & can recommend all three as truly top of the line jackets.

It's a good fit for a blousy style such as the A-2 and I strongly disagree it looks too large by any means. I'd rather site up for more comfort than size down, as it looks like it may pinch in the armpits and be a bit snug in the stomach.

I'm everything but an expert on military jacket styles... But I don't think you should apply modern fashion rules onto a vintage utilitarian design like the A-2.

I think it looks great personally - theyre not really my style(whatever that is) so I wouldnt wear one, but from what I can see it fits great and looks good.

If I was spending $100 at an Op shop maybe. Paying full retail I would want a better "fit"

What I learnt from WW2 pictures is lots of the military wore ill fitting jackets.

One thing I will say, is it well very fitted around my shoulders and chest. And the first thing I notice with jackets is if the sleeves go beyond my wrist. This one didn't, but I guess the result is the billowy sleeves. As I say, it did feel quite snug when I put it on, but looking through the pictures again (and your thoughts), I can see how some might not think it fits me too well. But then this is an A2 and the billowy look is to be expected.

I would definitely like to try on an Eastman for comparison.

A2 is a very difficult jacket to size because of the differences in the many ww2 contracts . Vintageleatherjackets.org is a much better site for info on this particular style.

Against the grain of many comments so far i think it looks a size too small.

This is a thing i often chaff against in tfl comments. Unless a pattern is GREAT which is often not the case even with some more expensive manufacturers, jackets that look like they fit awesome for an insta post or an ad campaign are impractical for actually living in. Another thing which may be regional is the school of “i rarely zip my jackets.” It gets cold around these parts. A jacket that you can’t zip is in my opinion playing fashion dress up.
Here are pictures of 2 A2s. The one that looks like “a perfect fit” was completely uncomfortable to live in. In the bigger one i can actually zip it and answer the phone or drive a car.

To my eye, the first jacket looks one size too small in the chest and shoulders and 1 size too big in the gut. 2nd jacket looks a size too big all around. I'm not an expert on military jackets or how they "should" fit. Obviously your movement will be less restricted in an oversized jacket...I've said this before, the right fit should be trim enough to wear with a tee, allow for a layer and be comfortable (within reason) and zipping it goes without question, regardless if you close the jacket or not. I don't see too many jackets that fit too trim here. I also don't think it's entirely reasonable to expect a leather jacket to perform like a carhartt...if it does...it likely won't look very good.
