I've heard the spare tyre used before too Tony. When a spare tyre reaches big proportions it's referred to as a 'beer gut' here and is considered a physical symbol of much investment in the local pub! lol

Consider it economic development.

I'm confident I've made a significant investment in the higher education of at least a few offspring of saloon keepers.

And now we have the reason we take our mom's the doctors while wearing rubbers while munching down a candy bar (or two for some of us), and stopping by the local pub for a shot or two to calm our nerves....I knew there was a reason this was going some place! lol!

I own "rock rubbers", and as a cop for thirty years they are the best thing going when you work outdoors.

I think overshoes are a necessity if you don't want you shoes to get salt stained and ruined during the winter.
