I spent to much. Please tell me I’ll be ok!

OK a little dramatic I know. The fact is I was stalking this one for day but I’m not sure if I made a kill or just nipped one of the sick and week ones. The fact of the matter is I am ignorant when it comes to hats, I also have no clue about how much a hat like this typically cots.

What I do know is if the seller was truthful this is a 50 / 50 Chicago style Optimo with a Trilby style snap brim. If the pictures are truth full then this is exactly what I was looking for in my next hat. However it looks to me like it was abused?

I expected to have it cleaned and reblocked. That’s fine. But am I wrong in assuming the crown needs some work? Also what DOES a hat like this go for new? The seller said about $600. and I’m sure that’s close but I would like to know if I did ok.

OMG I am feeling byers remorse. This is the most i would spend on a used hat ever. In fact this may be my last hat for many months to come. Tell me it’ will be ok guys. PLEASE!

Sure, sure,....relax. It's going to be allright.

That's a great looking hat. Doesn't appear any more abused than a lot of hats I've seen. In fact it looks pretty good. Don't worry. I don't know about the 600 smackers part,...[huh]

You didn't pay 600 did you!? I would worry about that. :(

It's a beautiful hat. It's an Optimo. A new Borso goes for a two-fifty. A new Stetson or Dobbs, not nearly the quality, goes for at least a buck or better. As I said in the other thread, if it were one size bigger, I would'a moved on it.

It's a beautiful hat. It's an Optimo. Congrats.

This is the only reason i wish we could discuss ebay auctions. i just wanted the thoughts on a few people here. I'm glad i did OK. I know it's an optimo. and i figured after getting my Stetson downs i wanted at least 1 white / off white hat to round things off....

I'm glad i didn't just throw my money away here. Now please thoughts about the cleaning and reblobking. Is this how it should look? i wish i knew what it looked like new. i asume it was a C tear drop crown. but i could be wrong maybe this is how it looked new?

The hat looks great ! If you like it and you wear it, it was worth the price. Relax I wish I could find a hat that color.

The hat does not abused from where I am sitting. Relax, enjoy the winning "glow", and the wait begins for its arrival.. :)

I guess wheni look at the pics and i look at my downs i see the sharp crisp lines in my Stetson. This looks like it has lost its shape. again this may be my amature background. but if you don't think it needs to be blocked i'll just adorn it as is

I have bought 15+ hats from OPTIMO.

Two were $1000 EACH. The others ranged from $275 to $500 each.

I wouldn't worry about it! I bid on this hat myself (and actually started a thread to see if a fellow lounger snagged it). I wouldn't have gone that high, but that's only because I'm a law student with a limited budget. Optimo hats start at $495 if my understanding is correct, and have a tremendous reputation. All things considered, $275 was a pretty good deal for an Optimo. Congrats on what should be a great hat!:eusa_clap

That is a beautiful hat I wouldn't be worried about the money as long as you liek ti and wear it well.

AndyKev, Graham must like you the cheapest hat that I was quoted at optimo was over 400. Mind you I send him a fair amount of customers.

Well, for $275 you could've got a new 100% beaver hat from Art Fawcett, custom fitted to your head shape. Is the Optimo 100% beaver felt?

Nope it's not but Art has limited colors and styles. I appreciate his strict quality standards but i was looking for something more like this then any of the ones I have seen on Art's site. This hat is 50 /50 and no one has said a blend means inferior quality. In fact most say the top hat makers use a blend.

I would have loved a custom fitted hat but this one is pretty much right on the money. I think i'm between a 59 and a 60 so this should be fine. i may need to add a little padding inside the band but i think it will still have the look i want.

Just to clear up two points you raised:

Art's colors and styles are definitely not limited to the ones pictured on his site. And actually, most of the knowledgable people here I've read think a blend (even 50/50) is inferior to 100% beaver in terms of durability, resistance to moisture and handling, and ability to be reblocked.

Well then i guess i was wrong on both accounts. i'll just place this hat in the trash when it arrives.
