Thanks for your reply. Budget is not an issue. I like all the design elements of the hat. Just looking for something substantially similar in fur felt with lining.

When I think western styled fedora, I think of a 3"+ brim. 2"x 2 3/8" is a little esoteric. A custom hatter would likely be able to duplicate this.

The Stetson Temple is an off the rack hat with a 2 5/8" x 2 3/8" dimensional brim, wide ribbon, and relatively low crown. It's not entirely dissimilar from your Goorin.

Nice hat. I can see why you like it.

Brent (Deadlyhandsome) probably has the right idea. A custom hatter can give you a really sweet hat. My experience is almost exclusively with vintage Stetsons. On this front for a quality hat of this type you’d probably be looking at a 20s or 30s hat, and they are not so common.

On the modern custom hat front I think these threads have info. Folks are always asking who is doing what, how long to wait, and how much, etc.

JLee and Brent might know of better threads, they track customs more than I do.

All the best, and good luck! Post your hats when you get them.

I have an older Goorin Brothers model in black called the "Jameson". It is a western fedora with a teardrop 4" crown in front and 3 1/2" in the back. The Safari brim in the front and back is 2" and 2 3/8" on the side. I am looking to upgrade to something similar in black fur felt and fully lined and would really appreciate suggestions. Thank you. Good afternoon,

Here is my issue. I have a vintage(ish) Stetson Temple that I steamed a tear drop in to and I really like but the Temple is not known for being rugged. I got it wet once and had to have it re-flanged. I usually wear it snapped down in the front and the back.

I am looking for something similar (teardrop crown with a tapered brim so it looks good with the front and back snapped down) that is really hard wearing. My family is outside a lot and I want something that will stand up to the elements. I tried on an Acubra Cattleman and it did not look right on me.

Any suggestions?

Hi There Oscot101, firstly welcome to the lounge.

I think that model Stetson is wool felt, if so that's why it doesn't weather well and is less durable. And see below for more info as someone types better/faster than I lol.

I’m not sure what you mean by “tapered brim.” The easy answer to your question is AKUBRA. It’s not the only answer, but it sure fits the bill.

I personally don’t like the Cattleman either. How about one of the other 65 styles Akubra makes? The Campdrafts aka Camp Draft, Federation IV, Bushman, and Stylemaster are all favorites around these parts. If you want more hat, I’m also partial to the Sombrero and the Woomera.

Maybe Oscott101 is referring to a dimensional brim, no idea on that point.

The Temple is a fur felt model, but introduced in the 80's when Stetson was not known for making the best felt.

But as far as the OP, pick an Akubra and be well.

Given you liked the Temple, I'd go with an Akubra Fed IV.
