Hello everyone here at the FL.
I'm new to this site, I've been waiting for my account to be activated, and it finally is!
But anyway, let me tell you about myself first.
I'm 19, I'm obsessed with the old times of the 20's to the 50's.
I dress the way I want do what makes me happy.
I love dressing like a greaser, and I also love dressing in suits.
But I'm in need of a nice Fedora.. I cannot seem to find any good ones on Amazon or anywhere around my area.
The kind of fedora I want is a high crowned and wide brimmed.. [I think that's how you would describe it]

Preferablly black, but gray will do also.
I have a Black suit with very lite, thin pinstripes, and a gray suit.

Also I'm sorry if I posted this where I wasn't supposed to. :eusa_doh:

Welcome to the Lounge!

Modern hats are predominately low and tapered. Use Ebay to search for vintage hats or look at the Akubra Campdraft or the Akubra Federation. Also, keep in mind that TheFedoraLounge has a Classifieds section at the bottom of the main page.

The options increase with the expense. For example, you could go custom. What's your budget? For that matter what's your hat size.

As for where this could've been posted, there is a sticky thread at the top of the page called Ask a Question, Get an Answer.

Thank you!

And yeah I see that.. the hats nowadays arent as cool as they were back then.
I'll try Ebay and your other suggestions.
I think my budget would be up to.. 60 dollars.. That's all I can afford right now.

And I was thinking about posting this there, but I read the discription of that, and I didn't think this would fit there. Sorry!

I think that at your price range, your best bet would be to trawl ebay, or keep an eye on the classifieds here (or post wanted). You can definitely get a good hat for that price (if you are really patient, you can get 2, but that is tough.)

I'd second what Yeps said. If $60 is your absolute budget, check eBay for a good deal. I'm a size 7 and have gotten a good handful of nice vintage lids for $60 or less. Otherwise, I would suggest to save for a quality lid like an Akubra Federation IV.

It is all about timing for hats in your size = 7 5/8, same as mine.
A few nice lids were just sold this past week on the Bay.
Patience & good searches will pay off.
That Whippet-style you desire is very popular but they do come up & go for serious coin...

Hi

Well while you're checking Ebay, you should continue to save up the hat $. Maybe something nice will show up for a low price, if it doesn't, then you'll have money for the good stuff.

I don't want to rain on your parade but you're not gonna get much for $60, especially considering both your size and the style you want. Large sizes and wide brimmed/full crowned fedoras generally command quite a price on ebay.

As other have suggested, I would save up some more bucks and go for something like an Akubra Federation IV. It is probably the best factory made hat out there today, and a relative bargain.

I have two of them, and an older Fed III, and they are my go-to hats. I have one of them on every day.

Even though you stated that your size is 7 5/8 for a baseball cap, I would find a store in your area that sells fedoras and try out some fedoras "live" to see what fits and what looks good on you. You may find that brim size is important too. Then you would have a better chance of getting what you want from ebay.

Go to Ebay, pick out one that seems to be good, and above all, don't be afraid of making a mistake. In fact, expect mistakes of some kind from mail-order hat buying. By a mistake I mean, maybe the size isn't quite right, or it doesn't look like you thought it would, or its condition is worse than you thought. Be ready for that up front, and if none of it happens, you can be pleasantly surprised. I buy almost everything from Ebay or through the Internet somehow, and it's excellent. Just be ready for things to not be perfect, and if they're not, fix it by buying another hat, later, and don't obsess too much about that one first item.

Welcome to the Lounge! You live in beautiful, sunny Massachusetts?! Than you must find your way to "Bobby From Boston" (in the south end) to check out and try on, etc. true vintage fedoras. And, if you don't find something in the store, there's always his warehouse in Lynn. Bobby is big time! Best of luck!!
