I'm looking for a brown or at least earth-toned beater in size 7 1/8 ; 7 1/4 or 7 3/8. I don't mind moth bites, moth holes or even some stains as this is gonna be a work and outdoor hat. It shouldn' cost more than 20$ and should be vintage!

Henrik

What size brim do you want? I have a medium grey Stetson fedora with a black ribbon, about a 2" brim, and a fairly low (maybe 3 1/2 to 4") crown. It's something I don't wear and would work great for a beating-around hat. Condition is really pretty good, but it's not a special hat. It's probably 70's as it has a black sweatband. Size is 7 1/4. If it were blocked and smoothed out it would be a decent dress hat, but it's smaller in scale than most of the guys here like.

I can post pix tonight if you want to see it.

OK, here are pics. The brim is 1 7/8" and the crown is 4" tall at the front peak. No holes or real damage, and the felt is nice and soft. The ribbon has a wrinkle that can be steamed out.

Nothing wrong with the hat. It's a snug 7 1/4 size. Let me know if it appeals to you..I'm not wearing it. I think I have about $20 into it. That plus shipping would do it for me.

HEY - I just remembered - I also have a grey Stetson of similar vintage that has a 2 1/4 brim and 4 to 4.5" crown. It's also a snug 7 1/4. The liner is in really rough and dirty shape and the sweatband is OK overall, but the stitches holding the sweatband together in back are broken. They could be repaired in a few minutes with a needle and thread. This hat can be re-blocked to look nicer (it has been sitting and slightly squished) but would make a fantastic beater hat! I'd suggest you just toss the liner.

If that one appeals to you, I'd take $15 and shipping for it. It could actually be made into a nice hat, but I don't really need it. The felt is decent and substantial. It also says 3X Beaver on the sweatband.

If these don't catch Henry's eye, they're very much available. Take both and have some fun.

Henry, i have a Portis in size 7 1/4. Has a number of moth nibbles and some stains that i think would clean up easily. Brim is 2 5/8", crown is approx 4.5-5" depending upon where you measure it. I'd say this is from the 40s. It has no liner and has a thin ribbon and bound edge.

I'll get a picture up tomorrow.

It's light grey (probably doesn't meet your brown or earth-toned request).

Let me know if you're interested.

Here she is. Has a number of moth nibbles as i said. None go through the felt. I believe the stains will clean out (at least mostly) There are some white stains and some green stains. A bit of steam and shaping and a little love, this hat will be a nice beater. marked 7 1/4 on reorder tags under the sweat. $20 plus shipping.

oh, it is certainly not too good to be a beater. The stains and several of the nibbles/pits are very visible. An incredibly difficult colour of hat to photograph. But i did my best. The green stains are pretty faint and quite difficult to photograph.

Moth pits and tracks above the bow.

This is at the front of the crown. the white stain is obvious. the lighter patches of the felt are areas damaged by moths.

Another white stain and some moth pitting on the crown.

There is a lot of moth damage (tracks) on the underside of the brim, particularly around the sweat attachment. And quite a bit atop the brim, particularly around where the ribbon is at (not photographed, but similar to the two photos below).
