The Onion, I haven't read this in years!

I read the article and was wondering why he rambled on about his hats...then I realized that he is, in a way, like us. We do the same thing, only with a different style of headware.

I'm sure that others must think us peculiar not only for our hats, but also for the countless hours we spend reading and discussing them here on the Lounge.

Marc, your feet seem to be missing a pair of wing tip oxfords. Or spectators. Or burlap bags. Something, anything!

I've known people to collect ball caps mostly for the collecting and not to wear. There are many weird and unique ones with some made in small quantities and especially for certain esoteric entities.

At least this twerp is wearing it correctly and not assbackwards like a punk kid rapper wannbe.

Sneakers, too. They're huge these days. $200 per pair, not to wear but to collect. It's strange, but anything you don't do is strange.

Every football Sunday, I wear my Philadelphia Eagles cap. Sometimes I wear it with the brim facing the front. When I get nervous / antsy, sometimes I'll subconsciously reverse it so the lid faces backwards. Also, because of the way the cotton feels against your forehead as opposed to the hard brim, sometimes it's more comfortable to wear them backwards.

This doesn't apply to me, but some people wear their baseball caps with the front brim pushed somewhat diagonally. It's a fashion thing, like when people wear ivy caps pushed off to the side a little bit. You could call it the 2007 version of the rakish slant.

I don't think it's fair to call it "assbackwards" or indicative of "punk kid rapper wannbe"s, though.

Who knows...

Imagine 50 years from now, when people spend hours on ebay looking for that perfect vintage Giants ball cap, exactly like the one Short Round wore in Temple of Doom

I have a friend who opened a small business based on selling vintage/repro sneakers. There is eventually a market for everything.

I don't have a problem with the guy

His style isn't my style but it isn't offensive.
I think your bad spelling (e.g. fedoraz sukk) isn't fair to someone that not only uses "piece de resistance" but has the accents in place also.:p

Sincerely,
the Wolf

I have a lot more baseball caps than that...

I don't know how many--they're mostly in boxes from my last move. A lot of them are squadron baseball caps that were worn with fatigues. Mostly they're caps that wound up serving as a souvenier, some I bought just because I liked them. But, like my untold number of t-shirts bought for the same reasons, I've come to a point where I don't think I'll be buying any more or if I do they will be few and far between. I've got enough.

I do have a means for hanging a bunch of them up in a "tower" of caps display. One of these days I'll get around to putting it up.

Cheers,
Tom

You guys *do* know that the Onion is a gag paper, right?

Anyway, no making fun of baseball hats. I find them useful when watching baseball, or it's raining and I have no umbrella.

Considering that it was published in the Onion, it's entirely possible that he is a dedicated fedora wearer, and the entire column is completely tongue-in-cheek.

Alternatively, he may even be lampooning picky fedora wearers by lavishing praise on such prosaic items as baseball caps. Substitute the words "Borsalino" and "Stetson" for some of his caps' names and the column wouldn't read much different than some paens to new hats I've read here.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Wolf, I gotta be the one to break it to ya.

That article is from a satirical newspaper/website called The Onion. The article and its cap-wearing author are completely fictional. It's a satire, nothing more.
