How will the Campdraft (Tawny Fawn) be to wear in the summer?
That's what I'm hoping to find out any day now, Doublegun...although in Silverbelly. Mine should be here any day now...but several Loungers have indicated the Campdraft is a fine summer lid. My Tawny Fawn Fed (very similar in color, and I think in felt weight) did relatively well in the California desert last week...the only time I found myself sweating was on a longer walk at 85 degrees. In the 70s and even low 80s, just hanging out, it was fine.

Were you expecting the 58 to be a bit bigger?

No, not at all. I had read here by many that they run a bit big but will usually shrink to fit. I found this to be true although I haven't worn mine enough to shrink it completely. It's still a bit big. [huh]

My mistake...I thought you were selling because it was too small, but a closer look at your classifieds post indicates that it's too big. Gotta read more closely!

Actually, I am selling because I don't really care for this hat. I suppose I am the minority around here but I just can't get accustomed to the dimensional brim.

Macguire, aces on that bash! And get a Capricorn! Less than $50 shipped for that poly-straw or a light felt. You are gonna start feeling naked without a hat, so deal with it ;)

HEY LOUNGERS!!!! Didn't want to start ANOTHER FED IV thread and tick off the brethren that don't share our enthusiasm.
But I would like to see some pics of the BLACK Fed IV. Start posting them please. Yeah, I know you can search...have you used the search function looking for Federation? More hits than a Tyson fight. So, if one, two, or more can post your BLACK FEDs on your head here I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

You see? If we had a gallery, you would know right where to go!

Jazzncocktails- during the summer i go for guayaberas and i think the white panama would be best for that when that actually comes about, there is something fishy about straw hats that i can't put my finger on. Thanks for the suggestion and picture there regardless.

I'm still playing with the brim because as it is, i'm getting confused for an orthodox jew with it quite a bit (this area has lots of them). I think its because of the dark color and also the gigantic brim. Either way on the two days this thing has been outside its already taken a beating from rain and then hail the next day so its off to a great start.

I'm still getting used to the Milan straw--this is my first straw. That fishiness for me is the stiffness of the straw, and the lack of give that I am used to from my felts. But it is light and airy...

for me its just that i couldn't wear a straw hat with a suit it just seems odd or not matching.

Thanks goose. I'm wanting to get a good summer hat. I'm new to anything other than a ball cap. I have a black beaver penman and the fed IV regular. I'm pretty sure they'll be a bit too hot for the summer.

Fed IV Fandom

Thursday night, a client and I attended one of the state's largest political events, Speaker Naifeh's Coon Supper. (Yes, bar-b-qued raccoon is served. I've had it before, so I stayed with the pork bar-b-que and fried chicken. My client was a newbie, so he had to eat coon. It tastes about the way you would expect raccoon to taste.) I wore my moonstone Fed IV deluxe.

In her Friday morning piece about the event, a West Tennessee reporter wrote that I was "wearing a very cool hat."

That, needless to say, made my day.
