Zombie, just by coincidence, you and I are each wearing our Tawny Fawn Fed IV's in our avatars. No matter, I just happened to notice...

I changed my avatar earlier today for a couple of reasons. First, because of the positive responses in this thread; second, because GHT commented in another thread, "Zombie, man, your avatar freaks me." As it's never my intention to offend or alienate anyone on any of the forums I frequent, I thought perhaps my previous avatar (a zombie in a fedora) might not be quite as "generally acceptable" as I thought it was. My mug may or may not be more attractive than that of a zombie, but I don't think it's bad enough to "freak" anyone. :D

And now, the moment no one has been waiting for--photos of my new Tawny Fawn Fed IV.

I'd say the color in these photos is reasonably accurate for direct sunlight; the actual color might be slightly warmer in person.

What a profile! The hat's profile, that is, not mine. And now, the crease.

Simply beautiful. I look forward to purchasing one of these fine hats for myself. Tawny fawn looks great. Now it's either this or Moonstone grey...

Thank you, Sir. Considering the fact that I have very little in the way of "earth-toned" clothing (i.e., browns and greens) I should probably get a Moonstone Grey Fed myself. But right now I'm really diggin' on the brown hats, so I'll have to ponder that for a while.

Very nice lid, Zombie.
Thank you, Sir. :yo:

I really like the look of the Fed IV and would like to get one. I'm looking at a Moonshine Grey one in Deluxe trimmings. Now, here is my question.. what size should I get? I'm a 7 3/8 with a noggin measurement of right about 23". I have a Stylemaster in 59, which is a bit too big for my taste. It's shrunk a little in the year I've had it, but its Imperial so that was expected. I hear that Heritage is less prone to shrinkage. With that in mind, would I be better off getting a 58?

Talk to the experts at the Hattery! They advise that the Fed IV runs small and to go up a size and to use the foam provided until natural wear and shrinkage makes it a perfect fit!

Zombie, am I right in thinking you also have a silverbelly campcraft? If you could post some colour comparison shots of that with your new tawny fed I'd really appreciate it. I've wished akubra would make the Feds in silverbelly ever since I got my campcraft. I'd be interested to know how close the two colours are, don't think anyone's posted them both together before.

Yes, I do have a Silverbelly Campdraft. Here are the two hats together:

I apologize for the poor quality photography, but I'm far from being a professional. I took a number of shots using various lighting conditions, and this was the one photo that reasonably captured the colors of the hats in somewhat subdued indoor lighting. The colors still aren't quite accurate (even after attempting a little color correction with Photoshop), but I think this might give you a fair understanding of the difference in hue between the two hats. I'll try again tomorrow in direct sunlight to see if I can get better results.
