Sunset Boulevard was made into a musical and was performed at the Hollywood Bowl a couple of months ago. They are adapting that into a movie. I'll believe it when it hits the theaters.

I think remakes are being made too often so that we aren't bothered with them as much. It's already happening.

I knew it was on Broadway with Glenn Close playing Norma Desmond. Honestly, I think Glenn Close would be the only person who could pull Desmond off on the screen.

Hmm...I could go two ways on this.

Of course, a remake could be an absolute disaster, and it will be forgotten as soon as it is released. No loss here, except the embarrassment of the people directly involved. We will still have the original, great performance.

However, there is a possibility that it can be re-interpreted, which would highlight parts of the story that weren't apparent before, bring new themes and relevance to the current generation. I'm speaking in general terms, here, I have no idea what this movie could/would be like. Just look at all the filmings/performances of Romeo and Juliet or La Boheme--none are the same, but bring new light to a story we all hold close. Why shouldn't Sunset Boulevard be filmed once again? It's a good time--we're just starting a new generation of classic actors, and this would be an excellent reflection of fame in days past, and what could happen again.

I agree with the sentiment about Glenn Close.

Who is playing Holden's part?

A Titanic Disaster in the making

I've been told that Sunset Boulevard is being remade. Some things...you just don't do. This is one of them.

If this is NOT a screen treatment of the stage produced Musical, a la Chicago, expect the worst.
Past performance/history shows us that la Desmond is correct.
No immagination, and less talent leads to bad theater/cinema.

A total disaster in the re-making! In the re-writing, in personnel selection, and lame, boring and undertalented direction.
Expect the absolutely worst in casting (Ben Stiller & Leonardo DiCaprio as a transgendered Norma Desmond and Danny Glover as the Germanic Von Stroheim)and an exploding Pierce Arrow, after the car chase scene thru the Hollywood Hills getting in the "Hollywood" sign and the gratuitous but lengthy full frontal unclothed and highly detailed sex scene(s) or the blurred psychodelic drug use scenes and the off side views of Max and his boyfriends in an plus plus intimate leather moment.
La Desmond at the top of the curved stairs decrying American intervention in Iraq for their oil and failure to halt the genocide in Rwanda(Whoops! That was Clinton's administration, cancell that)er, Darfur. That's it. Darfur.

Final scene at the swimming pool is the shootout between Danny Glover and Matt Damon who has a "little wooden boy" stiff legged walk on as a Hollywood cop.

God-awful disaster in the re-making!!

I agree with every word you uttered! lol

Do you think Hollywood will ever stop remaking and begin thinking? Hmmm?

I can answer myself: No, never! :)

Dear Gideon Ashe,

I can hardly wait! If your predictions and prognostications are correct, we are looking at an instant cult classic. "Rocky Horror Picture Show" look out.
Do you think it's too late to invest?

Ian
