So I'd made up my mind to order a Schott 740.
I was all set to place my order when it dawned on me that there may be a local shop that stocks them.
"Hello, Rancho Army & Navy....how may I help you"
"Do you sell navy peacoats?"
"Why yes, yes we do"
"May I ask what brand they are?"
"We sell Schott"
Ok now I'd much rather drive half an hour than pay shipping charges from New York to California.
I drove straight there and after a bit of wandering around found the rack where the peacoats were. I'm glad I was able to try one on before buying. I normally wear a 44 suit coat but the peacoat in that size was huge. The 42 was a nice fit so that's what I ended up with.
I wanted black but unfortunately they didn't have a black 42 but the navy blue is so dark it's hard to tell it isn't black.
The price was right too. I got the coat for $159 before tax.
