Officer of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Some more of his excellent acting, even if in colonial accents, and he might get a CBE or GBE, in which case he'd be "Sir Hugh".

I don't think titles are of much import anyway, but don't forget that today's recipients of British orders are de facto chosen by the elected government.

You may remember the fuss put up when the Beatles got their MBE's, (Member of thre British Empire, right?). The British "Honors" system goes way back, and is kind of arcane. It's a ladder that starts with "Honors" (i.e. MBE, OBE, etc.,) then knighthood, then, if you're really special, you get ennobled. In other words you become lord (or lady) So-and-So. They make a big deal of it over there.
But it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Or funnier.
