He brought beauty to America forefront, he had good taste.....he created and empire and fulfilled the American Dream,he has to be thanked for that!

Whatever you may have thought of the man personally, he didn't force anybody to participate. Everybody was there of their own free will.

Playboy wasn't the first, but it was the best execution, and served up enough serious editorial on the changing culture to enable it to be more mainstream. Not just semi-naked women, but what a guy could/should wear, manners, cocktail recipes, interviews with game changing people, and pro feminist politics. In the early days, it was Esquire with a little side boob.
He was definitely a major player on the 20th century stage.
