So I'm looking into my new hat being from Hufvud. Probably an Open Road style hat in brown or tan colors.

Now, I doubt the household will accept an investment of $800 for a pure beaver, so I'm currently looking into the beaver blend or deluxe rabbit and hare blend. Now, on pictures it's very clear how smooth the pure beaver is, but the beaver blend and the rabbit-hare blend look very similar in appearance from the hats posted on the website.

That makes me more partial to the rabbit-hare blend since it's an easier investment to make. But I wonder if people have any opinions or advice on this?

I have a large head and use size 62, so I'd like for the crown to be a bit higher than on contemporary Stetson Open Roads.

Thank you for considering my craft for your next hat! I truly appreciate that. You are welcome to visit the studio and I can show you the difference in quality and tell you what type of felt will be ideal for your lifestyle. Copenhagen is about 93 km away from me, 1h 15 min drive roughly. Windy weather might cause delays driving over the bridge.

Rabbit & Hare vs Beaver Blend is noticeable different in touch and feel. Rabbit & Hare is, in my opinion, a huge step up in quality from a 100% Rabbit felt (also depends on the thickness of the felt).

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Thank you for en impressively swift reply! Your craft is so impressive that I must admit to have spent Danish taxpayer money admiring it while at work.

And thank you for the kind invitation to stop by. I am however dependent on train connections, and it seems like your studio is a bit outside Lund?

If the Beaver blend results in a more robust hat that holds up better over time, then that settles the question for me at least!

Have a great day - and thank you again for takign time to reply.

Mikael,

I am taking my wife to Sweden later this year as she has discovered that she is 15% Swedish, a result of one of those genealogy sites. Question, as you live there year around, when is the best time to visit your country? FYI, we live in Michigan in the USA so snow and cold don’t frighten us and we do not like hot or steamy weather!

Secondly, your Mr Soft Bash Hat of the Year is just that! It is gorgeous and reminds me of the hats that my great-grandfather wore! I will probably start with a ready made Lucky Fedora until we get to you! Is the 100X Beaver the best, most durable felt?

Thanks,
Lunger

Hi Cormac,

I am sure Denmark will appreciate your interest for craftsmanship. There are worse ways to spend taxpayer money.

It's very easy to get to Lund, but from there it would have to be car/taxi. It's about 20 min away from Lund.

I appreciate you taking your time to reach out. Feel free to email me with any questions that you might have. Having a hat made is a journey, I am happy to go over all the details with you in designing a hat.

Regards,

Mikael

Hi Lunger,

Wonderful! Many Swedes moved to Minnesota. I do have ancestors who moved there. My mother did a lot of research before she passed away.

I would suggest May/June. Everything is beautiful as summer is in full bloom. There is the annual Midsummer celebration at the end of June as well. Wonderful to see people dancing around a 5m tall pole in middle of the summer while singing.

Thank you for liking the hat of the year! I will be making more of those.

100X Is the best, but depending on the purpose of wearing the hat I would go for a western stiff felt if you are looking for a true outdoors hat. I do make hats in Nutria as well which are fantastic everyday traveling hat.

What is your hat size? Will make sure there will be a ready made one for you in the future.

Regards,

Mikael

I'm sure you can work with Mikael to determine brim and crown proportions that will look great for your head size.

I have a chocolate brown fedora but I prefer the tan color.
