I'll be done grading Moday morning!!!
I just finalized the 100x Beaver Stratoliner in dark moss. Now the unbearable waiting begins.
Great feeling, ain't it?I finished today.
For me this is kind of a big deal, as I've never even handled anything higher-grade than hare: my hat size (63) precludes me from almost all vintage hats. The thing that really drew me to Mikael's work was the look of his Fepsa felts that, to my eye, seemed closer to some of the vintage felts I've seen other members of this forum showing. I've also mentioned to Mikael that I'd like the felt well-pounced and on the softer side. So, here's hoping for the best.I'm pretty excited, myself, to see it.

Congratulations. Mind if I ask how many years? Now that I've gotten my kid through college and law school, I'm going to see how the fall semester on-line courses go and take it from there. You must be in a celebratory mood.Yes, and I have one more work day on Monday, and then I am retired.

I couldn't agree more. I've resisted on-line courses for years even though all of my colleagues have taught them for extra income, and I've had to teach those "overload" courses on my feet in front of a class: something I've found increasingly difficult to do as I've grown older. Teaching is a performance art and is every bit as exhausting as playing music on stage. Real teaching is a transference of energy and passion, something almost impossible to do on-line. I'm only hoping that perhaps next winter we'll be able to return to the classroom. My 30 year date was Jan 6, 2020, and I am on payroll until the end of this school year (June 26th).
We have been doing remote learning since mid-March, and it's been an uphill learning curve, but I think we're getting the hang of it. Everything has been virtually (if you'll pardon the pun) brand new.
One thing this has confirmed for many people who have questioned the relevance of brick-n-mortar schools is that they are absolutely necessary. We will never be able to properly educate small children from home. There is too much missing from the total experience.
I'm happy that I am retiring, but the circumstances we educators are operating under have dampened it quite a bit. I did not want to say good-bye to my colleagues and kids through a computer screen. It has actually sucked doing so, so I will be going back in the fall when school opens to do it properly.
I have had two hats made by Mikael and out of all my Custom hats his are by far my favorites. Most hatmakers I have dealt with the process is; pick a felt, pick a style, send in measurements and 3 or 4 months later a hat arrives at your doorstep.Congrats !! You won't be disappointed with a hat from Mikael. He makes a NICE hat through and through.
Really beautiful work. What a year! Good and bad, but mostly good. Blessed indeed.

With Mikael it is much more of collaborative process, going through old photos of hats, factoring face shape etc. to come up with the right hat. His responsiveness to messages is immediate. His hats are soft and malleable and not stiff. Because of their malleability, they are great to travel with, your not worried about crushing them. They are truly hats made to be worn. On a trip to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia last fall i wore one his hats. It got crushed in the overhead, rained and snowed on was effortlessly hand formed back into shape. It looked better after the abuse of the trip!
These are all the reasons I ordered one. I really can't wait, though I know that, first, the weather will have to cool down some and, second, I'm pretty much stuck in the house, like everybody else here. Still, I've taken to wearing my hats at my desk. Gotta wear them somewhere!I have had two hats made by Mikael and out of all my Custom hats his are by far my favorites. Can't wait to see how your moss fedora turns out! These are all the reasons I ordered one. Remind me, Scotty. Which felt did you get? Hare? 30X, 50X???I was going through withdrawal, especially with my Hufvud, so I wore it out last night. The humidity was too much, though, and it ended up on my backseat (much to my chagrin) shortly after I arrived at my destination.
Congrats, it's a great day! I've been retired for 7 years and I love it.Yes, and I have one more work day on Monday, and then I am retired.
