How would you rank the Vintage Fedora?

Emotional Rescue?

Perhaps we could make this thread sort of radioactive, by diverting it towards the question: which brands are generally over or under-rated?

That should annoy a lot of people.

One (nasty, unhinged) hatter used to rant about how vintage Borsalinos were garbage, for instance. He was, of course, an idiot. That said, I will argue that *some* vintage Borsalinos really aren't anything special, and -- moreover -- that the best of the vintage Borsos are from years you wouldn't expect: mine have been from the 60s and 70s. (Generally thick velour or longhair felt.)

We've already heard from various members who politely place Stetsons at the bottom of the ladder (with a few exceptions: vintage 100s, for instance) -- from my modest experience of the brand, I would have to agree.

On the other hand, I don't think I've ever seen a really lousy Knox, or Dobbs, or Churchill.

Let the fire fly.

One of the biggest problems, one that won't be solved, is any newbie to any forum won't know what to search for or what questions to ask until he or she has done some research.

We should all accept the fact that the new members are going to ask questions that have already been asked and answered a hundred different ways. There is no solution to the problem. I know I was guilty when I first signed on here.

I've belonged to many forums and this one by far, has the most patient and knowledgeable members I've ever run across.

My "New guy " questions have always been answered and when appropriate directed to existing threads. I have to agree with the above opinion.

Ha! I just noticed that I am no longer "New in Town" so I guess I don't have an excuse anymore

For the record, I mostly agree that new members are treated courteously around here. As for comparison to other forums, I'm a member of several internet sites and find that TFL does stack up fairly well in that department. Of the boards of which I'm a member, TFL members are certainly not the rudest folks around. Not by a long shot. Of late, though, I've seen several fairly snotty comments directed at new members and I find that the picture I used in my post to be particularly rude.
