Wow! Lots of taller ladies!
I'm 5'1" and to be honest i have never liked being short. My sister is even shorter and loves it, i think it's a proportion issue (we have slightly different shapes). I have most trouble in the winter - being my height and shape, if i am dressed casually, add a winter coat and flat shoes, i look like a child. Not even a teenager, a child. It makes me feel very un-feminine and un-womanly and i suppose that is why I dislike my height so much. I also had trouble professionally as a dancer for being too short.
I cannot reach the top cupboards or the top shelves, or change my light bulbs without bringing out the big ladder! And clothes shopping? Ugh, don't get me started! It is impossible to find any type of vintage coat or jacket that fits right - the waist is always too low and unless I am dressed to the nines i look like a child who raided her grandma's closet :(
I envy all you other petite and short ladies who enjoy your height. When someone would mention/mock my height (or lack thereof hehe) i would respond that "the short package meant the quality was more concentrated" (it made sense in portuguese, i swear).
One thing i enjoyed was written in a vintage sewing book, on a section about the different figure types and what flatters them : that the "short and slim" figure was simply a shorter version of the "perfect figure". Hah! *triumph* Thank you vintage book :D

I am about 6ft, not sure.

I'm 5'2 1/4. Very important 1/4 inch there!

I think I look shorter as most of my friends are taller than me and also wear heels.

5'6". Most people think I am much taller, even though I don't wear very high heels (mostly 2 1/2" and lower). Maybe I give off a tall vibe. Sadly, I tend to hang out with a tall crowd, so I'm considered short among them.

I'm 5ft 6.5ins... The half is obviously very important. ;)

So am I! the half makes all the difference ;)

Yeah by Swedish standards I am not exactly short, but a bit shorter than average. 5'10 is probably quite average over there, and most my friends are that tall or taller.

This pic kind of freaked me out:

Paulette Goddard, Dorothy Lamour, and Veronica Lake

Veronica Lake was 149 cm/ 4'1''! Am I the only one who doesn't know this? Or was it common to be that short back then?

Wiki says she was 1.51.
But yes, back then people generally were shorter then they are today.
People have roughly been the same size for centuries up to the post ww2 era.
You can compare that generation even to the average medieval person.
In my country people today on average are about 10cms taller then say 50 years ago.

Thanks, that explains it. I'm not quetioning Veronica's beauty or anything, but her nody looks so tiny and her head so big, like they don't match. It might be because she's opening her mouth? I have a big head (haha!) but it does look like part of my body.
