Kay, not my given name, but the one by which i've gone for many years, means Rejoice and reached it's height in popularity in the 40's - go figure

My name (Meredith) was most popular during the 80's. Surprise, surprise! It was also popular in the 60's and 70's, and a wee bit in the 40's, but the 80's wins!

Oh, it also means "protector from the sea". How ironic, considering I'm terrified of the ocean!

I must find the french equivalent of that, it would be fun lol

edit: apparently Amélie became really popular in the 80's, was somewhat liked from 1900 to mid 20s, but it's like néant betwen that and the 80's lol

Whew, Jennifer appeared in the 40's and was starting to gain popularity in the 50's. It was the #1 most popular name in the 70's. My mom chose it on purpose. Her name is Edith, and even in 1947 when she was born, Edith wasn't popular. She hated her name and hated being picked on because of it. So I was named Jennifer so that no one could pick on me for my name.

It did cause confusion when I played basketball, there were 4 Jennifers on the team. One was Jen, Jenny, Jennifer, and I was just called "Woman" or my maiden name "Killmer".

Heehee, my sister and I got our names the same way. BOTH my parents hate their names, so they were careful about giving us classic names that have many nickname options, so that we could choose when we get older.

I'm an Elizabeth, too, BTW. First time I've seen a list that didn't put it in the top 10 for all decades (usually runs about 7th-8th).

Oddly enough my name was mildly popular in the 1900s and teens, then totally bombed in the 20s, 30s and 40s, then started coming back strong in the 50s and now is number 33. This is sort of disturbing since I don't need a bunch of young kids running around with my name.

I do not like my first name. Double ugh! The only thing going for it is that at least my mother spelled it with a "K." You rarely meet females named Karol on the U.S. coasts, but it is not uncommon in the midwest. In Europe, it is a male name, including the most famous Karol in the world, the late Pope John Paul II.

Someone asked me what I'd rather be named and I said, a name from classical antiquity -- Greek or Shakespeare (Phaedra, Jocasta, Antigone; Desdemona, Portia, Viola, Rosalind).

But, really cool names would be to be named after a "bad girl" in the bible. Now, those were names: Delilah, Jezebel, Bathsheba, Salome. So, if I was to change my name, I would become:

Before even going to the sight, I know my name is getting more popular due to Faith Hill and Faith Ford, yet still not popular enough for personalized goodies.
Least popular in the 70's (when I was named, go figure) most popular in the 90's.
Barely on the radar in the first 3 decades of the 1900's but jumped in popularity in the 30s.

My name appears to have had a short burst of fame in the 50's and 60's and now looks like returning back to obscurity. Its a name I have never felt comfortable with and really think that it was one of those name that was groovy for a flash in the pan and now is still stuck in that time period.

To guess the name, think of the popular TV show at the time 'Bewitched'.

I still get a lot of 'Dagwoods' and 'Deeeerwood'

Not sure what I would change it to....

Looks like the popularity of my name took a slight upswing in the 40's and then really took off in the 50's. I had no idea that my name was ever considered to be popular. I've only known one other girl with the same name as me.
