I don't see this as mean spirited. I agree wholeheartedly Some folks just want to stir stuff up. I found this site by 'Goggling' Fedora hats'..not vintage wristwatches, not what kind of girdle to wear, not leather coat care, but 'Fedora hats', I guess that name..Fedora Lounge CAN be a little deceiving. I do enjoy reading about all the other stuff, but make NO MISTAKE, I come here to research HATS, the thousands of other stuff on here is just noise to me. Oh well, hope I am allowed to remain a member after that. MV, you rock my friend!

Why would you think that your 'membership' would be in jeopardy after that?

edit: btw, this is only a rhetorical question.

Things have got a bit awkward. To get back on topic, I haven't really found an occasion to wear any of my hats, since I've been cooped up indoors all day studying and doing an essay... Maybe on Sunday for church I'll wear my Stetson homburg again. Last time I wore it, a friendly stranger was driving on the parking lot, looked at me, and stopped to ask where I got it from. I told him eBay, and he said he should get himself one of those. I enjoy interactions such as these, as they make people more aware of hats, and it's just a good conversation starter anyway.

Thats a good point for differentiation. If one happens to be indoors all day, does it count against 'every day' if he happens to not wear a hat? To me, every day assumes I am going to be outside. I dont leave the house without a hat, havent for years, originally for thermal control reasons, being 'follically-challenged.' =o)

Getting back to the original point ...
Wear that homburg, fedora, derby, fez, smoking cap, Stetson, Dobbs, trilby ... day and night, inside or out, enjoy life ... if the wind gets too strong at work, punch a couple of holes in the brim and run a leather boot lace through so you can tie it on your head ... but don't STOP wearing hats.
The world depends on this!
THEY want us to stop wearing our hats, like we did in the 70s.
Sorry, didn't mean to rant ...
On a serious note ...

After missing a couple of days I checked in this AM and saw the recent "controversy" so I had to scroll back to pick up the pieces and, as one who has worked in the publishing field for almost 35 years, and who suffers from the usual discourtesy of the public daily ... I feel I must address this issue.
I hope we are all aware of how gentlemanly this site is.
You ALL should be proud of yourselves that the messages are consistently positive, even when people ARE joking.
I have been on this site for years.
I was on it daily for at least three or four years before I ever started leaving messages and many of you have, over the years, become friends.
I find it amazing that there is so little negativity here.
So pat yourselves on the back and put your hats back on.

BTW ... for the record, there ARE a lot of other posts on this site besides hats ... never figured out WHY personally, since nothing in the WORLD could be as interesting as hats, but there you have it .... JUST JOKING!!!!

Righto. Now! If only I could nail that 7X Clear Beaver on EBay, I'd be a proud feller indeed. But I'm afraid I am to be beaten out by the crowd. I'll have to have a beer next week to console myself, or possibly two.

How often do I wear a hat? On weekdays, I wear at least two hats per day -- one hat for work, and the other for walks with my 107 lb. German Shepherd. ;) (Heck, even on weekends, I'm inclined to wear at least two hats per day -- one to do errands, and one to walk the dog.)

Of course, in order to make sure my lids are regularly stretched out, I've been known to wear a lid or two while surfing the Lounge, as well...:D

Cheers,
JtL

Other than my line of work, where a hat is a requirement, I'm still an "occasionally" in my personal life. Often, it just doesn't feel right. A hat is still an ACCESSORY. I don't want to wear a hat just for the sake of wearing a hat. I believe that properly choosing what hat to wear means sometimes choosing NO hat to wear.

Just for me. Not a requirement for everybody. More often than not, when I'm wearing a (civilian) hat, I'm wearing a full suit and tie, and vice versa. Oh, and I'm almost exclusively a fedora man.

To me this makes very good sense.
