Just wondering how many other gearhead loungers are out there with sidecar rigs-
This is mine, a Chinese vesion of a Russian version of a 1939 BMW R71 called a Chang Jiang (pronounced more like Chung Jung, rymes with "hung"- means "long river")

I have always had a secret yen to own a motorcycle with a side car (or know someone who does ;) ). That's a beauty pictured through the link (nice suitcase too)! Is it the same machine shown in your post?

The taillights came from a pre 1950 VW Bug- not hard to mount, just had to do some careful trimming and fabbed up a couple brackets. That bike has Chinese, Russian, German, American, Japanese, and British parts...

Gee...I thought this was a thread about taxicabs!

Here in Boston, cabs are (used to be?) called "hacks"...short for "hackney carriage". Amazingly enough, Boston cabs still carry a metal placard, issued by the city, that says "Licensed Hackney Carriage".

I appologise for going off topic!

What a way to tour Europe!

It's got me thinking (which is a very dangerous occupation for me!). What a lovely way to tour around Europe!!

Why must we have such good taste? It's a curse I tell you!

Paddy--Sigh!--what a wonderful idea. Seeing beautiful sights in a beautiful machine.

The biggest problem I have with a sidecar is going back to a 2 wheeler- I'm so used to having all that room to carry stuff I don't know what to do with just two little saddlebags...
A friend of mine used to have a Moto Guzzi Stone Metal (Jackal) with a big Chinese sidecar, that bike would go over 110 with the chair attached. Scared the hell out of me, I'm used to my 1930's technology Chang Jiang, puttering along at 65 MPH (and that's only beacuse I put a BMW motor in it- normal top speed would be about 45-55 MPH).

I ride and build sidecars

I ride a 1964 BMW R60/2 with a 1942 Stoye sidecar. Sidecar is not a military model but is a civilian model one of five built for a high ranking member of the party to be used for escort duty as he went from Berlin to his weekend home. It was found in Poland back in the 1980's traded hands a few times then I bought it got it back on the road.
I always have sidecar rig in the building stage so if interested drop me aline.
As for the bike that is posted for 15 grand is a nice show bike but hate to pay that much and take it down a country road and get a stone chip in the paint.
As for the CJ ( copies of a 1937 R71 BMW ) I am working on building one up with a mid 1960's BMW 500-cc engine. helped build one last month now time to build my own. The style of frames and forks they use is not the best for sidecar use but do make a very good and fun vintage bike. For less then 6 grand you can have a bike like no one else unless you bump into me. Not like the "custom" hogs that will set you back 20 grand and that when you go to a rally or bike week you see 10 bikes just like yours.

Again, pics? have you been to the CJU site? It's huge and covers all things CJ in the US and in PRC.

CJ/R71

No photos of the convesion (CJ with BMW motorc) sorry have atough time loading photos here am on MAc and for soem reason have not be ever able to
The K9s are an Aussie and beagle mix both 13 years old they both ride in the sidecar> they have been a cross the country a few times by hack.
I really like the CJ frame trany ( which for spare parts you can use BMW R71 parts ) also the same for the final drive ( replace any part that breaks with BMW ). But the engine well better off with a mid 1960's R50/2 motor . The CJ stuff is fun to use as base to build from .
