How many leather jackets do you own!?

I own one an A-2 interpretation in dark brown cowhide from Blair's online store. Made in India, it's actually well made and relatively faithful avaitor style jacket. Best of all I got it for $99 plus shipping last year about this time. So I have one for in the mean time while I save up for a "good" one.

Given the state of play here, perhaps the question should have been, "How many leather jackets do you want?"

That's a tough one ;) .
the problem most of us have here is that the reason we *want* leather jackets is not the functionality (though it is of course appreciated), but the sense of romance associated with wearing leather. It's a sensual experience in itself, AND it throw you back into a different era. So although we have great jackets, and 1-5 is literally enough for a lifetime, nothing beats the craving for that initial smell of leather, or the discomfort of breaking it in. Hence, the obnoxious amounts of jackets we do (or will) end up with.

Same applies to jeans. I have 3 pairs of "proper" (i.e. raw jeans) that are great and durable, but I still crave the break in process etc

Very nice collections. Sounds like some of the members here need to have reinforced closets. ;)

I'm going to need a reinforced skull when I order an Aero Barnstormer and then tell my lovely bride what it cost.

How many...?

I'll add my list:
Aero:
Highwayman, black, steerhide, 42
Hercules, cordovan, horse, 42
Bootlegger, cordovan, steer, 42

Johnson Leather (SF):
Hercules, black, horse, 42 -- made from the pattern of a totally trashed Sears original I bought on ebay.

Banana Republic: (don't laugh, ebay)
G-1, brown, goat, 42

Good Wear Leather:
Dubow A-2, russet, goat, 44

Roots:
Varsity jacket (or tanker), black, steer, 42 (a really nice jacket, recently eclipsed by the new Bootlegger. I'll get back to it. ebay)

Julian Adventures (made by Wilson, I believe. Again, don't laugh. ebay)
Nice suede car coat style, light brown, 42

This list does not include the four or five G-1's I've worn over the years, or the ebay jackets that came and went without memory as they were not what I thought, didn't fit, or made good gifts to friends. :)

They Do Pile Up, Don't They?

When I first read this topic, I thought that I had nothing to contribute, but then I thought about it; I have more than I realized!

I have the Barbour International, a Wested Horsehide Indy, a Wested Lambskin Indy, an LL Bean Flying Tiger insulated generic bomber, a tightly tailored racing-style jacket I bought in Monaco, and an Italian racing leather jacket I bought in Venice.

Not only do they pile up HJ - I think they multiply too. Just like wirehangers.
Let one in your closet and you are allright. Two...then you get problems.
Next time you open your closet, there are 15 or 16!!!!
Wirehangers will take over the world!!!lol

Coathangers...

Hello, Spitfire:
Your comment about coat hangers reminded me of a sci-fi story I read decades ago, I think by Avram Davidson. Seems a young man of tightly wound disposition grew anxious about where paper clips, coat hangers, and bicycles came from. He eventually worked out, to his great horror, that paper clips are the larval stage of coat hangers, which are the pupal state of bicycles. Of course, he could not be allowed to live having solved the riddle, and he was found strangled in his closet...by a coat hanger! Great stuff.

I registered just to reply to this!
I feel like a gay man in the fifties from some rural backwater walking into his first gay bar......
At my peak, I probably had 20 odd (some very odd) leathers - it's down to 7 at the moment after ruthless ebay pruning of ones that didn't fit. What's left is an Illinois Police MC jacket by Nate Uniforms of Chicago, a no label Lewis copy, a LincoProof belted barnstormer style thing (Irish made, quite sought after here), a Blue hand made MC Jacket, a Tan hand made cafe jacket, a lovely, but a little flash, Sears half- length coat in beige with brass buttons and a Military coat bought in Prague 15 years ago, made by Centroteks (rough Cyrillic transliteration) - feels like proper horsehide, but I can't find out anything much.

10, which is probably 9 too many...

(USA) Tunstall vintage "Hercules" style.
(USA) Cresco vintage "Hercules" style up top but "70s pimp" length.
(USA) Taylor's Leatherwear vintage, like the "Passaic" style -- excellent but even at 44L too small across the shoulders so I think it has to go. : - (
(USA) Cooper vintage car coat. Very thin leather.
(USA) Deer Wear vintage bomber style deerskin.
(China) Structure car coat -- durable leather but buttons keep threatening to fall off.
(Germany) Elstermode double-breasted police coat-- solidly engineered, and great for cold weather.
(?) Magnoli open road goatskin.
(Italy) Compagnia Della Pelle funnel-neck racer style.
(?probably USA) vintage no-name heavyweight car coat that I'm wearing today.
