How many jackets have you owned?

Good quote there Tony!

Gosh, limiting it to just leathers (and living in Illinois then Iowa you need several other options) I would have to say somewhere on the order of 40 Leathers have "passed through". Ebay and PayPal have made the buying & selling process much easier, I used to snoop around in Motorcycle shops looking for a "rare deal" jacket, and found unique ones more often than I might have suspected. Prices in smaller, old school shops like that are often still negotiable, however nearly all "leathers" are gone these days, replaced by colorful textile jackets.

So I presently have 5 and am awaiting two more. I just sold 2 and have a "donar" lambskin jacket I'll be giving away later this fall. However as Fanch indicated I've largely sold off the jackets that were tool large, or just not made all that well.

This thread makes me feel a little closer to normal, for a while anyway :)

Took many over the years, some bought as wearers, some for sale. Others bought for sale have become keepers and others bought to wear, worn rarely.
As for bike jackets, when I rode my old bike I had original 1960s jackets but now they have all gone. Now I'm one of those Power Ranger types with everything from Gortex, race leathers, two piece leathers and mesh for warm weather. plus others. most of my favourites sit in my wardrobe even if a bit tight hoping to loose a bit of weight
Also have some wool and retro vintage stuff(read bought new).
Still have an old WWII A2 that is a bit tight but can be worn undone ;)

leather jackets, I can confidently say 5,
my first leather jacket was a forgettable baggy raglan sleeved thing my mom bought me in highshool, I wore that thing till the back totally grey from backpack, and gave it away.

from the past 3 years, I now have 4 leather jackets, all collarless racer type jackets with center zip. I'm currently happy with what I have and trying to wear them more rather than adding.

Having discovered the joys of the Reverb website, I can stare at old guitars any time now safe in the knowledge that I can't afford them...

I need to check that out.... I have a couple of Matsumokos (Westone Thunder IA and Thunder IA bass, matching natural finish, relatively rarer as lefties, especially the bass as it's a MkI old logo) I need to shift. Lovely instruments and all, but not to my playing tastes and I gather they're now a lot more collectable than when I bought, so it's coming time to move them on. See, there's this Gretsch that I need....

I'm only listing items since the obsession hit me in 2001 - though I did have some leathers and military jackets earlier - and I'm not going to list stuff like blazers or hoodies:

Current leather:
G&B Civil A-2 (black goat)
G&B Historical M-422A (seal goat)
Wested Raiders (dark brown lamb)
Good Wear Dubow 27798 A-2 (russet horse)
Schott 654 Casual Racer (black cow)

Current cloth:
LL Bean Warm-Up (black nylon)
LL Bean MA-1 knockoff (navy nylon - heavier exterior and Thinsulate-style insulation)
At The Front Army Tanker repro
Alpha MA-1 (standard model, gunmetal gray nylon)
WPL British Belted Bush repro
WPL Army Ike repro (OD enlisted version)
London Fog topcoat (charcoal gray wool blend)
Cockpit Army M-43 field repro (terribly inaccurate!)
At The Front Army M-41 field repro (summer variant w/cotton lining)

Former leather:
US Authentic A-2 (seal horse)
US Wings Indy (seal goat)

Former cloth:
Alpha B-15 (standard model, navy nylon)
At The Front Officer's Field Overcoat

I've found this is actually a good solution and it's much cheaper than buying more stuff, although I do it with books instead of the interweb. Hence I now possess some nice glossy porn books on flight jackets, firefighter gear, with a book on denison jackets in the mail... etc.

Good point, how I wish I could stop looking at old cars without doing the mental arithmetic of affordability.
This is going to be sold at auction at The Goodwood Revival in a couple of weeks.

My leather jacket history:
  • Black Perfecto copy from an unknown brand. My younger brother inherited it off me because I never wore it, and I think that he still has it.
  • Black Aero Leathers Veste Des Rallye in vintage horsehide, stolen from a car in Birmingham.
  • Black Aero Leathers Veste Des Rallye in FQHH, part exchanged for the below. I wondered if this might be it, because I'm pretty certain it had the labels when it went back to the factory, and it might have been a part of the Grand Theft haul.
  • Black Aero Leathers Hercules in FQHH. This had the chest pocket deleted, and had a quilted, satin liner. Sold to someone off the Iron Heart forum, who still has it.
  • Cordovan / Brown Aero Leathers Cossack with a double breasted front. @Worf had it the last I heard.
  • BKS Leather two piece suit. It's currently in the UK, and I'm in Oz.
  • Original Irvin. My younger brother currently has this, and I really should recover it. Unfortunately he's bigger than me!
I don't own a leather jacket, apart from the top half of the BKS suit, and I'm not sure if that really counts.

I've got an order in with Good Wear, but it seems to have got lost in the queue due to me moving Down Under at about the time I got to its head, and various other things. I must chase up JC...

My current jacket list is:
  • Iron Heart M65 in denim. This gets worn all the time, and there are very few of this particular design outside of Japan.
  • Iron Heart First Zip in 17 oz denim. This doesn't get enough wear, but it's one of the pieces that inexplicably didn't sell. I really like it.
  • Nigel Cabourn Ventile Smock. I've had this for quite a few years, and it's pretty much fallen apart.

I should have around 20 leather jackets, well nothing too fancy. Would really like 3-4 more styles. Still missing a café racer with racing stripes, also the Irvin and A-2 repros

I have two jackets worth mentioning. A Schott 641 and a Vanson America ( model B ) jacket. Very happy with them both. I want to get a horsehide in something from somebody next year....

Currently 7 leather jackets and 7 other "serious" non leather outdoor jackets. These include things I have had for 40 years and others acquired in the last year. Everything from a 16 year old soft raglan mall jacket bought new (that I really still love) to an old Levi jeans jacket that I've had for 35 years, along with the more "modern repro" heavy horsehide bike and other jackets. Along the way on this weird jacket trip I have jettisoned 4 others due to sizing issues, but I rebought them all in the correct size, so the net number is still the same.

I classify the shearlings as something else. Helps when I'm trying to emphasise the differences and thus explain why I "need" more.... (Course, next time I buy another, if there are queries at home, I'm gonig to point to some of the more extreme examples on here for comparison..... ;) ).

++1 And all I originally wanted was a cool leather bomber jacket ;)

Ha, I remember when I thought I was being quite the daring one by having a black leather and a brown leather - in addition to my Perfecto type! What makes it even funnier is that I once thought I'd be happy with just those....

I'm far too embarrassed to give a number and have honestly lost count. Needless to say the figure would end in two 0's. The hunt is part of the fun though so I suppose it's not all bad. What's even crazier is the ones I've sold and bought back. Like this jacket due back today or tomorrow. View attachment 55467
And I couldn't be happier about it!!! That's how I KNOW I'm nuts.
LOVE that jacket, what is the brand ?
