I've met people that have had a remarkably large number of cars. Folks that had been driving 12 years having owned 31 cars and such. I don't think I've owned many since 1964. I've included company cars since they were pretty much fulltime use vehicles. How many have you owned?

1958 Chevy Biscayne
1957 Olds 98
1960 Triumph TR-3
1963 Volvo 122S
1957 Ford Ranch Wagon
1951 Ford Victoria
1973 Camaro Z-28 (bought new, restored recently)
1975 Ford LTD- co. car
1977 Ford LTD- co. car
1978 Cadillac Seville
1987 Cadillac El Dorado
1987 Cadillac Fleetwood
1996 Cadillac El Dorado Touring Coupe
1994 Dodge Dynasty (inherited)
1950 Packard

Hi,

I have been driving since 1971 and have owned only twelve vehicles---including several motorcycles. Of those twelve, I own three of them now. I guess I tend to keep vehicles longer than does the average person.

Atticus

Post Edit: Oooops. I didn't understand that we should list the cars we've owned. Here are mine:

1967 Honda 70, 1965 Ford Mustang, 1969 GMC 1500 Long-bed Pickup, 1969 Honda CB 450, 1972 Chevy Nova, 1972 Datsun 240Z, 1976 Chevy Short-bed Pickup, 1980 Datsun 280ZX, 1985 Mazda RX-7, 1995 Jeep Cherokee, 1997 Jeep Wrangler, 1999 Dodge Ram Extended-cab.

Since 1971 I've had the following:

1962 Plymouth Belvidere (I'm glad this car can't talk ;) )
1972 Harley-Davidson 350 (still have, but not ridden since 1976)
1975 Ford F-150
1979 Ford F-250 (This truck had a 455 V-8 in it. You needed a freaking gasoline tanker to follow you around just to keep it going.)
1965 Ford Custom 500 (still have)
1989 Ford Bronco
1999 Chevy Tahoe (still have)

I did not own a car until my senior year in college, when my father bought me a dark green 1949 Chrysler Royal. The car was so big and heavy (semi-automatic and mohair seats), that I did not need to purchase snow tires for winter and, had I put a turret gun on top, I think the thing could have passed for a tank. My father paid $75 for it.

Later, father found me a 1956 Pontiac that had only 12,000 miles on it.

The first car I bought for myself, in 1968, was a 1968 Chevy Malibu, toreador red and matte black. Automatic shift, I sold it to my brother when I moved to NYC and did not own a car again until I was in San Diego.

In 1984, my father sold me a refurbished 1972 VW Bug. Of course, it was red. I wanted a stick shift because it bothered me that I had learned on one when I was 16 and had forgotten how to drive them.

In 1992, I traded in the bug for a 1992 Saturn. They were pretty new then and it was cool to have a car everyone stared at on the street. It was a stick shift, of course. And red.

I traded it for a 1994 Saturn two years later because I wanted to get air bags. Red and stick shift. I kept it for 10 years.

In 2004, looking forward to retirement and a long trip to Iowa, I bought a chili pepper red Saturn Ion Quad couple. Stick shift. When my friends and family were amazed a person my age would buy a stick, I said, "automatics are for wimps."

So, let's see, that's only seven cars, so far. Would have been more if I had not lived in NYC for 13 years. Too bothersome to own a car there. Plus, the subways ran day and night.

There will be at least one more car in my future. Don't know what. I prefer cars that look like rocket ships over cars that look like dirty ice sculptures.

1969 Volkswagen Beetle. A swell little car that I miss very much, may it rust in pieces.

1981 VW Rabbit Diesel. I miss the 50 miles to a gallon, and driving to Boston on $5 worth. Had this car for 13 years, and finally junked it when the clutch fell out.

1988 VW Fox. Lemon. Lemon. Lemon.

1997 Toyota Corolla. No personality at all, but it's reliable, cheap to fix, and gets me where I need to go when I need to drive.

Cars we had when I was growing up:

1956 Nash Rambler -- my father tried to start it up on a subzero morning and cracked the engine block.

1961 Chevrolet Biscayne -- my mother drove it into the side of a house one day when the brakes let go, teaching me in the process that it's impossible to stop a car by dragging your foot out the door.

1964 Chevrolet Bel-Air -- had the remains of a squooshed elephant fly impressed into the headliner. This same type car shows up all the time in old hip hop videos, which never ceases to crack me up. Ours bounced up and down that way too, but it wasn't intentional.

1971 Ford LTD -- Caught on fire one day and that was that.

1974 Ford Galaxie -- my grandmother's last car, and the first one I drove regularly. One day the driveshaft fell off when I was whizzing down the interstate, and you can imagine the fun. Had a nice radio though.

Been driving since 1992. For the first couple years I drove my parents' minivan. The first car I ever bought and owned on my own was:

1994 Cutlass Supreme convertible

I drove that until it died in 2002. That's when I bought a used car:

1997 Monte Carlo

Now I'm married. I still have the old MC, but we needed a second car to get back and forth to our respective works:

2007 Jeep Wrangler

The MC is on it's last legs, but we're going to trade her in for a new car soon. No idea what yet. Maybe another Jeep.

Since sometime around 1992 I've had an 86', 91', 03' and 05' all Chevy Caviler.

I buy new, run 'em into the ground, trade 'em and repeat.

Chevy stopped making the Caviler, which is very disappointing.

I've been eyeing up those Chevy HHR's lately. Very nice looking car, good price, good gas milelage, but I only have 3 more years to pay on my car then I am debt free of everything!!!
