How heavy is your aero jacket?

Because I’ve been researching into Cal and LW CHP jackets and how heavy the good ones can be etc - out of curiosity I weighed my two aero jackets:

- HWM 40 steerhide 2.5KG - that’s a shocker it’s so light!! I bought this second hand from Japan though.

- KoTR 40 HH 3.2KG - about 7.1Ib I think! When I ordered it I just said to the aero team use the thickest natural HH you could find - and they didn’t disappoint!

I’d thought the heavy HH aero days were in the past.

How much does your heaviest aero weigh, and from which era?

Mine are all around 6lbs, give or take, with the very heaviest weighing perhaps 7-7.5 lbs. Longer styles, cross zips, and motorcycle jackets are going to weigh more for obvious reasons. More material, heavier construction. Lining choice also factors in, the lighter cotton and wool weighing less than alpaca, quilted, or shearling lining.

Thank you guys it’s good to know all this! I should have clarified this is for short jackets only. I hope aero continue this moderately heavy HH going forward

That would be Horween CXL FQHH and CXL Steerhide. Both are well regarded, but you can search and find much more than plenty of information about these on here.

PHWM Black Badalassi, wool tartan, size 44: 2.7 kg/5.95 lbs
PHWM Cordovan CXSH, moleskin, size 44: 2,7 kg/5.95 lbs
J-100 Chestnut Badalassi, cotton sateen, size 44: 2,25 kg/4.96 lbs
Vincent Blackened Brown Vicenza, cotton drill, size 44: 2,25 kg/4.96 lbs

And yes, the first two and the last two really do weigh the same.
And I'm actually glad that the jackets aren't heavier.

Well can't add much more to this thread than PC did!
I weighed my Thunder Bay because it was the easiest to get to. It weighed in at 7.2 pounds. It has the heavy shearling lining. Probably about 8 years old.
Cept my TB is 7.9 pounds primarily because I'm bigger than he is.

I so love the TB model! If I were ordering new from aero I’d either pick TB or CHIPS - too bad they don’t make removable mouton collar for CHIPS!

And they recently put up the price :(

Chips is cool. Note sizing is different. I have a tagged 40, normally wear 44.

Wow size down 2 sizes?! Is that black HH showing some teacore? Very nice!

I’m so torn between buying a aero CHIPS or LW CHP. It is torture! I don’t want to buy both even if I had the money - I put up my HWM for sale to raise funds for this purchase.

I now rotate between my natural HH KoTR and a white JL CR. How’s that - only two jackets! I do need a 3rd one - a black tea core one as night attire! It just feels wrong when I head out in a natural HH or white jacket for a night out!

Yeah. Chips is one of a few you have to size down. It’s tapered to a “38” too.

This is the midnight blue HH.

I should have added that my ThunderBay is a size 42. Worf's is probably a size 46 or 48.
Well, I joined FL as a size 52!!!! I'm now a 46 on a good day, 48 after Thanksgiving Dinner! Still the T.B. is in my regular Jacket rotation and, after having the zipper replaced) it will be for the duration. But if you want impress someone, hand them the jacket and let them feel the heft. Amazingly heavy for such a short design.

If you had a pic I would enjoy seeing what it wears like please?

and here a beautiful lightweight Vicenza (again sized down to 40) Highwayman..

That weighs half of the CHP.

Different weights, for different jackets, for different wears. I like the heavy ones personally, however there is a place for a range of weights on my rail.

I don't get hung up on weight...
