How Fringe are we?!?!?!?!

A recent conversation with a fellow lounge member got me to thinking.....

It was stated how packages were constantly stolen in their country...

And, me being me, It got me to thinking.....what DO the thieves do with those stolen hats?!?!?!?!?!?!!?o_O

They would be hard to sell, hard to pawn, just simply hard to get rid of....ESPECIALLY the vintage (which would likely "creep out" the thieves who would open the package and think "what the hell"?!?!?!?!?!!?

Lets face it, for vintage hats, hell even for new modern hats, people are not exactly "breaking down the doors" to get a hat:eek::eek::eek::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:....JUST US..;););););).

People DO wear their....well...baseball caps....UGH...........:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Hat manufacture is NOT even close to what it once was...and just look at the sales each year as the outlet stores unload their unsold inventory.:(:(:(:(:(

So, I can just see it now.....the "Porch Box Gang" are back at their hideout, and sitting around the table opening the stolen packages....."Look Guys, I got a valuable bracelet", "I got jeans!!" (yes even jeans would be well received), "I got a box of new cell phones!!!!", "I got a computer" and then they ask Charlie, '"Charlie what was in your box??"........."Um, well.......just an old used hat!!" A collective.."EWWWWWWW."....and they throw it in their burn pile......:rolleyes:;)

Yes, even a box of dog food would be better received by the "PB Gang"......:rolleyes:;)

Just like when the kids go through their candy bags on Charlie Brown...........

Yep, anymore even liking NEW hats is pretty "fringe" on the list of society......
Oh well, at least we here on the LOUNGE love them!!!!

I sometimes wonder what happens to all the packages that porch pirates take that contain odd random items they can't resell. I imagine a lot of it goes in the garbage.

My old apt had porch thefts. I literally left a rock and a threatening note (to involve law since I had it all on camera, I didn’t) inside a package, only had 3 minor Amazon shipments take overall but still irritating. Never happened again after that! All my hats I’ve had shipped to work, to avoid both the wife and theft!

There could be far worse thins for even the least style-conscious porch pirate to find in a box other than a fine example of fur felt or hand-woven straw.
Take murderabilia for example. Or perhaps the used tissues (or, *gag* even worse items) rooted out of celebrites' garbage cans.
Fringe? Nah. We hat collectors might not be mainstream, but we aren't even close to the edge, let alone the fringe.
Imagine being as upset over someone swiping that package containg the hairball you paid $500 for supposedly from (name your celebrity here)'s dressing room trash can as you were when a hat was stolen.
Hats don' t seem quite so fringe-y now... :)

Anyone who ever talked to a dermatologist would be told to wear a hat. Fringe? No. But criminals are inherently lazy. If you can’t flip it quickly, forget about it. But with a little research almost anything is worth something to someone. Tiki mugs have a following, lava lamps (even burnt out vintage ones) have a following. The internet is a fantastic place for freaks and geeks to talk, share, buy and sell.

Heh, that reminds me! I know a guy who collects forensic samples, including skulls. I'd LOVE to see the reaction of any porch pirate with the guts to steal a package off his porch.
