How does Aero know sleeve and torso length?

My first post! Hi, everyone. Tons of great info on here-- enough to make me order my first Highwayman!

My first question for the forum: How does Aero know what length to cut your sleeves and torso? Aero sent me some measuring instructions, but none of them included sleeve length or body length. Do they need these? It seems weird not to ask for these. Thanks for any info!

Hi sshack and welcome on the Fedora Lounge! A great place to find and share lots of information.

The Highwayman is a great jacket, you've made a good choice also to buy from Aeroleather.
You should be aware that the Highwayman has a rather "boxy" cut. Some people like that and others don't.
If you like a more "trim fitting" jacket, please state that on the order form (or email directly at Amanda@Aero...).
The best thing you can do is take your exact measurement, like heigth, weight, chest, waist, jeans size. I always give those measurments again with each order. Also, take the sleeve-length of a jacket which fits you well.
When you are don with that, think about pockets, inner-pockets, inside facing hem, lining etc...
Aeroleather is doing an oustanding job and their customer service is excellent. Mail them as often as you like, they are extremely helpful to get you your desired jacket in any way you want. If you need help from the guys here on the FL, feel free and ask as much as you want.
Good luck!
Andy

Thanks for the info, Andy. I'm definitely going to provide as much info as possible on my custom Highwayman. I just found it odd that Aero didn't ask me to give basic info such as weight, height, sleeve length, etc. If I just gave the measurements they asked for, there's so much room for error!

I didn't place my order yet (w/ the factory). I just asked for the measurements they needed. Maybe it was just a mix-up on their end. Or they probably assumed I would just send the extra measurements anyway. I'm not trying to point fingers, just wondering what others have done when placing their order. With all the custom options I plan on doing, I don't want to swamp Aero with a ton of unnecessary info.

Well, I always place my orders at Aeroleather directly at Amanda thru email, giving all the information regarding sizing, hides, linings etc.
Also, if you want to change something on your jacket during the waiting proces, just drop Amanda an email and she will adapt your order.
Good luck with your first order!

Actually I think it would be prudent for you to take your sleeve length as measured from the edge of your shoulder to your wrist knuckle (or from mid neck to wrist knuckle) rather than using a jacket that you believe "fits you well".

The reason I say this is I see alot of people wearing jackets they think are good fits when in actuality the jacket is technically too big for them, the shoulder seam falling an inch or two below their actual shoulder edge, yet the sleeve length works out perfectly for them.

Therefore if you measure that jacket sleeve (which in actuality is too short for you) and send that measurement to Aero you just might get yourself a new jacket with the correct shoulder width and a sleeve hem up above your wrist knuckle. :)

*When supplying your "sleeve length" be sure to describe the measurement as having been measured from 'shoulder edge to wrist knuckle'.

Great advice, everyone! Appreciate it.

By "wrist knuckle", am I right to assume the bone protrusion at the wrist? And that you measure from the shoulder to the bottom of it?

I prefer my sleeves a little longer than this. If I give the above measurement, is that exactly how long they will make the sleeves or do they add some length?

Both of my jackets were made to the measurements I supplied, I don't think they add anything. I personally measure to my first thumb knuckle not the wrist.
