Of course I'm from Canada! I don't own long underwear though lol I don't even know where to buy it.:)
My skirts are all knee length or longer, cause, in my opinion, it's not appropriate for a teacher to wear anything shorter.

I have been meaning to buy good winter boots. But the tights!!! oh I'm just loathe to buy anything trendy:) and I always seem to tear them the first time I wear them,:rage:

A good winter slip is worth trying too -- Vermont Country Store has a nice simple knit cotton one which can be surprisingly warm if you layer it. I wear it over my regular slip, and it doesn't add much bulk at all.

Favorite winter vintage outfits

Ladies,

I know this sounds silly, but my closet seems crammed with pretty cotton dresses to wear when it is spring and summer, but now that there is a very VERY noticable chill in the air I can't seem to find anything cute and vintagey to wear and keep me warm. Other than some VERY formal evening dresses.

Any thoughts for every day wear in the winter?

Any pictures? Ooh! Show us your every day vintage winter-time cuteness!

I like to wear 1940s-50s suit jackets and sweaters with wide-leg trousers and heavier skirts, as well as day dresses in more fall/winter appropriate fabrics, like wool gabardine. I also have a host of cardigan and bolero sweaters, which are great for throwing over a dress to ward off a chill (and my office is always freezing, year round.) My other favorite winter outfit is a knit dress or top and skirt set--these are comfortable, never need ironing, and great for office wear too. My favorite is a black popcorn knit 1940s dress with a white rabbit fur trimmed neckline :)

I had the same prob too! So I made some suit jackets with matching skirts to solve it. I posted them in the "Show us what you made' thread.

I tend to go with leggings and calf high boots and scarves, gloves and buttoned sweaters. A lot of thick cotton and wool as well :)

all my winter clothes are sooo ugly! I hate being cold (86 is my comfort zone)
and i think i just barely get through winter. The only thing i have that is nice is a poncho & skirt set from Iceland made of Mountain Goat hair or something. Not necessarily vintage mind you, but cute.

Knit dress, eh? That sounds quite good! I'm off to the Alameda Flea Market to find such a thing right now.

I'll let you know if I find something!

I have found most of my knit dresses on eBay, fairly inexpensively. I have them in a variety of colors/styles because they are so wonderful to wear :)

Trying to think what sort of knit dress you mean - do you have a pic? I have been looking for a knit dress out in the shops but I can only find jumper dresses and they are a little too short for me!

I also tried a jersey material dress on in topshop and the fabric did nothing for my figure - hugged all the wrong places :(

Jitterbug I would love to see that popcorn number!

I don't have much in the way of everyday wear for winter either.. but I do have quite a few coats. We went out for dinner last night and I dressed in late 50's vintage. A black chiffon number with a drapped neckline and a wide satin band on the hem. I had a little headband hat with netting, don't know what you'd call it. I had several choices of coats but I went with the warmest, lol! It's a lovely shade of sage with a fur collar. Gorgeous buttons. I'll load some pics!

Also, thanks to you girls I went out on a limb and tried a very bright red lipstick! And I think it worked! My first seamed stockings also arrived yesterday. I really like them.. I'm hooked!

I do like the cardigan sweaters, must get more. Would like to get some fishtale skirts.
