how do you think about vest with button on the "wrong" side?

so... today I received my vest, and my little sister's jacket. I washed both with dettol, so photos going to wait until tomorrow

apparently my vest has buttons on the wrong side, the maker acknowledge it, and kinda offer a remake, but I decided to accept it as is, since you know the situation with the virus and probably soon their workshop might be required to close when situation escalates.
I do ask for replacement buttons, so later I can use vegtanleather cutout of my jacket to patch the button holes, and flip the buttons to the other side... however upon receiving, I kind of OK with it since it is clean minimalist with no outer pockets I 'm afraid alteration with patches might ruin the clean look... also being on the wrong side it counters the jacket in weight distribution and visually when worn under a jacket, I also see a sample of reversible vest when worn reversed their button then is also in the wrong side, except my vest is not a reversible...
how do you guys think?

Yes on the female side, so I need to use right hand to button, i normally button and unbutton with only left hand, but since right hand is quite smart just by yesterday doing it several times it has felt natural.

I have a difficult time with buttons not on the side I am used to. I can do it, but it is backwards for me. Sorta like having the zipper pull on the left side instead of the right. Just difficult zipping it up.
This has been my experience as well. I have a couple jackets from the UK with zippers on the left and I struggle with them every time. Its kind of funny too considering that I’m left-handed.

It took me a while to get use to US flight jackets which zip on the different side that zippers from the rest of the world.

Let me see if I follow.

So your jacket has woman's buttons. Your sister's jacket has man's buttons. And sometimes you wear her jacket?

Who is the tailor?

No, i dont wear my sister's jacket, i order a jacket for my sister as birthday present, i just try it on naturally to check size, and while it fit on the chest and body the length is naturally very short since I give measurement as crop jacket. I order this jacket with men/ unisex side button as this is what common with raw denim.

As for my vest that is just pure mistake somehow it happens, it doesnt bother me personally but just checking what others feeling, actually the fit of the vest bother me more than its button, it fits roomy on me, i think when i gave him measurement seeing my chest and waist measurement similar to my sister's jacket, he added more on mine in proportion to the length probably he is afraid it wont fit me as we never met and he never see me wearing close/ snug fitting outer pic like a leather jacket.

The tailor probably was confused. Maybe he thought both items were for 1 person.

It sounds like you should return the vest and have a new vest made.

Very considerate of you. With the slow down in the economy, the tailor could probably use your business. Maybe you will actually be helping him by placing a reorder.

Before you consider patching try sewing a button behind each button, then you can fasten as is, female side, or fasten onto the back buttons, male side.

I understand that is the real reversible vest is done, thanks, but with denim button it is nailed from underneath, so on the opposite of each button there is nail head.

The most non intrusive way is just wear it inside out with button holes reused from the other side which is possible since the lining is full and done with the same fabrics, but as you know lining side is always slightly bigger so there are ripples and sagging, and the inside pockets are exposed as patch pockets.

Took me a second to realise it's inside out in that last photo. It seems likely, given you were buying a jacket for your sister (albeit that you specified male side on it) that they assumed the vest was for her too.

Were it me, I'd want it 'right', but if it doesn't bother you and you're otherwise happy with it, who cares hat anyone else thinks? I doubt many will even notice- I mean it's not as if you're going out in full drag....

Years ago I had a flannel shirt that was buttoned to the ladies' side. Always felt a bit clumsy putting it on and it looked a bit odd somehow to my eye when I caught myself in the mirror, but most of the time I didn't really notice it once on, and I don't recall anyone ever spotting it unless I pointed it out.

I bought a beautiful houndstooth Harris tweed jacket on ebay last year, and when it arrived I found it was NOS, and fit me perfectly - but the buttons were on the wrong side. I must have worn it to work five or six times and no one commented. Then again, I sometimes think that someone could walk through downtown with an arrow through his head and no one would notice.

yesterday I wore it the whole day, forgot to take pic, just plain front with a pair of waist adjuster tab on the waist, 5 small jeans fly buttons, I make adjustment with hand sewing to make the chest smaller since it was too big, he must have added at least 4cm on each side from the original measurement I gave him, he doesn't trust my measurement probably thinking better make it bigger than too small, that is still my biggest problem with online MTO, they are afraid to trust measurement given by client and adding margin to be on the safe side, and since 99% of clients probably don't mind slightly big jacket.
