How do I hide a scar on my face?

I'm awfully sorry about what has happened to you. I haven't read the other posts. There are sources online that give examples of how you can naturally reduce/fade scars. I don't know if they can raise them if it's indented. I know it's more obvious to you than to everyone else. You have to trust that even though I know it's little comfort.:)

Honey, turmeric, lemon can regularly be applied to lighten if there's any darkness. I quickly noticed someone mentioning mederma, concealers and foundation formulated for covering scars. I don't know of this product but I've read it in mention on other scar discussions around the net. I don't know if it works but you may want to use sunblock to keep darkening of the scar from less likely to occur.

You're very pretty and have big brown eyes like my sons. Each of them have through fight/play gained some long scars and they've faded over time and it's not the first thing anyone notices about them. I've got a big dent in my forehead thanks to some ex. I think it always filled more in my mind than anyone else actually noticed it.

Grantfan so sorry that you have been injured. What all the girls are saying is so true. The scar will be significantly less noticeable in no time. It looks like it was stitched really well. I have 2 scars on my face. One was from being hit by a cricket bat and it was through my eyebrow. I have to fill in the little bit where its missing. I used to be very self concious of my scars but as time went on they are really not that noticeable anymore. With such a lovely face I'm sure no one will be focussing on your scar.

Make Up Forever - Full Cover Concealer

So sorry to hear about your accident - it looks like your scar is healing very well though.

If you are looking for a seriously good concealer (once you can use make-up again) I can heartily recommend Make Up Forever Full Cover concealer - this stuff is amazing - it covers everything from insect bites (when I get bitten I get HUGE red marks), tattoos (brides often use it for their big day), acne spots and scars:

http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P151107

You only need a tiny amount and you can be confident the coverage will last all day.

I too have a scar on my face. I had a cyst in my cheek, and I too had it done by a plasic surgeon- good thing you thought of that! I will say compared to mine, yours looks great for only being a couple weeks out.

I think it took at least 6 months before the pinkness went away. And your pretty lucky because that area is not so fleshy, I kind of get an indention with mine. I can't wear cream blush, it kind of settles into the crease.

But I'm definitely in the camp that it gives my face some character. I don't even think about it anymore. I notice it occassionally in a photo, but I think just give it some time :)

As for the face, I'll confess - I have freckles all over my nose and cheeks, and a large broken blood vessel under my left eye. I use Benefit's Dr Feelgood to soften the freckles, and MAC concealer for the blood vessel. It covers it completely. I finish with opaque powder all over the face, then blusher. My skin is lily white with a lovely flush, and it's all an illusion! ;) Make-up can do anything.

You play this trick too, huh? I've got horrible dark circles, a large busted blood vessel under my right nostril, blotchy skin from mild rosecea and a large indented chicken pox scar on the left side of the bridge of my nose. My best friend sat on my left through 3 1/2 years of classes before she asked "When did you get that scar on your nose" and pointed to her bridge. "When I was four and had chicken pox." "No way! I've never noticed it before."

Everyday I get at least one person telling me how lovely they think my skin is. Little do they realize how blotchy it can be underneath all my lovely mineral makeup...

Make-up can hide such a multitude of sins... mwhahahahaha!

GrantFan, I'd still use the mederma, but please know that your big beautiful eyes and a shock of red lipstick will make that scar disappear. :)

Sorry to hear about your injury and as :eek:fftopic: as it may seem, may I say while I was looking at your pics I noticed something.

You have some of the most big beautiful eyes I've ever seen!

Soo...

Feel better! :D

dahliaoleander you are too nice, thank you. I actually used to hate my eyes.I am half Hispanic and in that culture light hair, skin and eyes are prized. When I was in high school I even tried out colored contact for a while. It hasn't been until the past few months that I have really started to enjoy them and take advantage of them.

GF, I hate that this happened to you. For what it's worth, you were at least lucky that it missed the eyebrow. I am confident that your scar will fade to near non-existence but those ones that interrupt the hair of the eyebrow show up forever. I know - my face is a topographical roadmap of scarred up skin over busted bones. But I'm a roughneck. Get well soon.
HarpPlayerGene I actually have one in my right eyebrow from when I was a child. I got a soda bottle lobbed at my head a big brother and now I have to shape my eye brows around it so it can't be seen. So I know what you are talking about and you are very right I was quite thankful for it missing my left brow.

i too have a very similar scar> mine is in the same place as harry potters on my forehead and lightning shaped.

this happened to me at school, so imagine how much i wanted to get rid of it> i used Vitamin E cream all the time, a cheap one from the body shop and it is now super light. Vitamin E cream is the best on red pigmanty skin too.

i hope this helps and you are super beautiful.

Sorry about your accident.

I'm one of the ones who thinks it looks fine. It's not that bad and it will fade over time. A little cover up and powder should hide it for now if you personally don't like it.

I have a scar on my "eyebrow" (I say that loosely because I barely have any!) and sometimes I wish my glasses or painted-on eyebrow didn't conceal it so much. I also have a silly "labret" piercing scar lol I kinda like it!

I'm sorry to hear about your accident. :(

I have a pair of scars on my face from separate childhood accidents. They happened back in the days before Mederma, so the doctor had my Mom apply vitamin E oil to the scar every night once it was sealed up. It worked well, and now even when I point the scars out some people can't see them.
I'd suggest that you ask your doctor what he suggests to diminish the visibility of the scar in the long term and use makeup in the short term. The girls had lots of great suggestions in that department.

Grant- so sorry to hear about the injury!!

There's been a lot of good advice in here...the Mederma is definitely helpful...when my mother had her double mastectomy, her doctor told her to use it- and that's some major scarring! But it definitely helped!!

And I would second the Makeup Forever concealer suggestion. I have a birthmark on my chin (a very purple/reddish port wine stain)...its on the bottom of my chin, so its not hugely noticeable, but I do conceal it every day...and I use all Makeup Forever products as far as face foundations/concealing. It's not so heavy and gross like the Dermablend, and it feels great on. If its looking pinkish, you can try the green tinted concealer with it. I usually put on a little bit of the green, my foundation, and then the regular concealer.

Your scar is barely noticeable, though...really! It probably feels moreso because its on your face, and I totally understand that! A little dab'll do ya with the green/concealer from Makeup Forever. And another big yes to the Mederma!!

I have a scar about that size on my right cheekbone. I got it when I was much younger, and had a plastic surgeon close it up. Now people don't even notice it. Don't worry! It will fade, and in the meantime, it's a great story.

Oh, this is not instead of the medicine/beauty tricks other people are giving but its really helpful as an assist - go get a can of Bag Balm from CVS/Walgreens. It's not terrible expensive, it will be in a green can with flowers and of all things a cow on it. Just slather it on before you go to sleep, it will moisturize/heal/help the scar. Don't wear it in the morning to go out, its thick goopy stuff.

But it really helps minimize scarring. And its like ten dollars a can, way less than some MAC stuff! And a can lasts a long time and you can use it on all kinds of cuts/sunburns things like that. I even put it on acne marks, to make sure that my skin doesn't scar when it acts up.

Hey sweetheart, i am so sorry about your accident, and i do understand you must be very hurt and worry about your scar as it is in the middle of your forehead, but hey, good news!!! because while is still fresh it will look red and noticeable, something that you can conceal with not problems with help of many products, creams or high coverage make up.
I also have a quite considerable scar myself, is in my top left eyelid, between my brown and my low eyelid, it practically covers the whole thing, it got made while i was a child i felt on the edge of a door handle, i was lucky i didn't loose my eye.
I also have another one on the top of my nose bridge caused by a fight with my brother when i was a child, after running after him for having stolen a doll from me, he closed a wooden door with a glass in front of me with such a bad luck that the glass shattered and cut my nose bridge ( i covered the rest of my face) and my left wrist.

Now these marks are clear and i must say that despite i wish i hadn't have then, now they are not that much noticeable.
I never use make up something that could easily cover then but i hate to cover my face with that stuff in a daily basis but what i do use is biooil, is a product that we have in UK and i am sure must be in the US market, is used for helping to heal the scars and stretching marks and make then look less noticeable.

Also check for creams like the ones used to cover spider o varicose veins, if they really can cover veins they sure should cover the temporal red mark of your scar.
Also check a make up artist, and i say this because they are the ones that can teach you little tips to cover redness and marks.
I know that in make up to neutralize a red spot, the green color is used but i can't tell you how is done because i really don't know.
And another thing i would like to tell you, please, DO NOT get obsess with your scar, is very easy to get overpowered with the look of a mark in your face, just think it's noticeable phase is temporal and eventually it will fade and blend more closely to your skin tone, and that also there is something that can be done to concealer it while this happens.

I am including the bio-oil link so you can check it out
http://www.bio-oil.info/en/uses.html
and other links that maybe you would like to read as they are about cover scar products and technical used to do it

The only one i can speak for is bio-oil as is the one i use but you can check with your chemist about these other ones or similar products.

This is about spot scars but it might give you some tips that you can apply to yourself

Hope this post has helped you in something.

I know what bag balm is and why it has a cow on the jar. It's utter cream my friend used to have me help her put it on the cows then their utters were sore form milking them. I am actually allergic to it and my hands used to get hives for days from it. But my mom says it is fabulous stuff too

My fave tricks / and products to cover, plus website of tips

Ouch!!! Hope it's better!

I'm extremely fair-skinned (very light porcelain /ivory), so the skin problems show up like a bright red beacon. Adding to it, I have allergies which occasionally result in skin "emergencies".

The girls are right on about Maderma to heal the scar...

But the most effective cover product I've used is Judith August Cosmetics' Everything Pencil. They're creamy pencils that dry to a slight powder finish, and it lasts a long time. They're also less inexpensive than many cover products and don't irritate sensitive skin.

http://www.judithaugustcosmetics.com/

The website also has tips for how to cover blemishes, scars, etc. Pat to blend with your fingertips (don't rub), and the warmth of your finger will make it blend into the texture of your skin.

You can also use the lightest pencils to highlight what you do want people to notice, such as between the V of the cupids' bow of your lips, inner corners of your eyes, etc. The lightest pencil is what Anastacia, the eyebrow guru, used to sell in her shop for years as a browbone highlighter before she developed her own cosmetics line. (My sister went to her; this is how I found out about the Everything Pencil.) Works great!

For really red problems, I add a tiny bit of Physician's formula green cover stick. For the green, use only about 1/3 of what you think you need; it's strong stuff and you don't want to look like Kermit the Frog! Pat to blend, pat in some Everything Pencil and /or foundation to feather it in together, going slowly with a thin layer of product at a time, and set with powder lightly as needed, gently brushing away any excess powder.

I have no connection to this product; it's just saved my bacon many a time when an allergy attack made me want to hide. I also love the portability of them; if I feel the spackling job won't hold, I bring them along but rarely need to touch up, except in very hot weather.

I order the Everything Pencil and the green cover stick from Drugstore.com / Beauty.com (the sites are connected and will route you automatically via drugstore.com) Don't forget the Everything Pencil sharpener, and freeze the pencil for 20-30 minutes when you need to sharpen. (I sharpen my pencils the night before.)

Good luck!!! It gets easier as you get the hang of it, and before you know it you'll be doing it in 2 minutes flat.

Kids can be dangerous. My nieces son reared back when he was on her lap and broke her nose. She had to have surgery big time.
Sorry about your accident and just have to say like others it is not that noticeable and you are so gorgeous I doubt anyone will even notice it as soon and when you slap some makeup on most definitely will not.

Mex-American here! So I totally get what your saying, but here it seems vice versa. The closer you are to seeming "fresh off the boat... er coyote's truck" to coin a term, it seems is the better with most ppl my age that I've encountered over here! :eusa_doh:

Some even fake Cheech & Chong sounding accents just to get that extra kick of street cred! lol

As a parent of 2, count 'em 2, kids on the autistic spectrum, I commend you for dealing with DD kids. I wouldn't have the patience to do that all day, nor the physical stamina. Evenings with the boys are plenty for me!

At any rate, you're lovely, scar or no scar, and you see it a lot more than anyone else does.
