Recently I found a 50s era pea coat in great shape overall, except for some blotches of a tacky substance (seems like pine tar) on the front. Any suggestions for cleaning that won't damage the coat? Thanks!

Professional cleaning should be fine.

Soaking in cold urine (Exempli Gratia the vintage white pants fiasco) doesn't work on everything.
