How do I choose a hat?

Yesterday I found Classic Style on the newsstand, purchased it, and read it cover to cover. I'm on a bit of a hat kick now, but it seems there aren't any stores in Oklahoma City that could assist me. How do I go about choosing a hat that will compliment my looks? Are there any rules, so to speak, that dictate the height of the crown or width of the brim if I should have to buy online? I'd appreciate some insight, please.
